Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.
This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.
Auschwitz took time.
My next big KS3 planning task is to replan our Transatlantic Slave Trade SoW. Does anyone have any recommendations for up to date textbooks I could possibly use? We teach this in Year 9. #KS3History
Thank you @UCL_Holocaust for another amazing residential! I really enjoyed visiting the @mcrjewishmuseum and it was great to hear about all of the amazing work other schools have done this year. #BeaconSchool2324
It is wonderful to have our #BeaconSchool2324 Lead Teachers gathered again with the Centre team for Residential 2.
Our day began at @mcrjewishmuseum.
Thankyou to MJM colleagues for the welcome & lunch at your cafe specialising in traditional Sephardi Jewish food. 1/6 @soper_mr
An exciting week as KS3 Lead. I led my first department meeting on Monday, where we had lots of great discussions about improving KS3 History. I’ve started with mapping out a new SoW for Year 7, trying to make our curriculum as diverse as I can! #KS3Lead#History#Diversity
I have taken away so much from this trip and feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity. Now is time to rest and reflect after a busy few days, before educating myself further.
Such an amazing first school trip abroad to Krakow! 🇵🇱
On day one we did a walking tour around the Jewish quarters and learnt about pre war Jewish life. We then listened to a Holocaust survivor’s testimony which was so powerful and something our students will never forget.
Our final day involved a walking tour around the former ghetto and Heroes Square.
We then visited the Wieliczka Salt Mines before spending the afternoon in the beautiful main square.
Shocking.
This is exactly why we must broaden the curriculum. Teaching and learning Black British histories is essential for our understanding of the world we live in. It's in all our best interests.
I’ve just arrived home after an inspiring and thought provoking weekend on the Holocaust Beacon School residential. Thank you @UCL_Holocaust for the amazing opportunity! I cannot wait to share everything I have learnt with my department after half term. #BeaconSchool2324
After a great CPD session and mentor meeting with @soper_mr this week, I’m looking forward to learning lots more on the London Residential next weekend! #BeaconSchool2324
Though there is variation in when it begins or its length, half term is approaching: but #WhatsOn next week?
✔️Welcoming #BeaconSchools2324 Lead Teachers to our London Residential
✔️Short, self-guided online CPD courses
✔️Research, podcasts & more.

My classroom is Black History Month ready (a few days late)! I’m excited to launch our scavenger hunt tomorrow which will give the students the opportunity to find out about 12 amazing black women and their contributions in different subjects. #BlackHistoryMonth
@KatieFellows1 Amazing! So glad I got to work with you and be a part of your teacher training journey. You are a brilliant teacher and I wish you all the best for your ECT years.
