This school where I currently am has such a special place in my heart. I have grown so much as an educator because of the school team and it absolutely saddens me that all the hard work we have put into it will soon come to an end.

There is a bond in our district that is being presented as a good thing so people will vote yes. And yes, perhaps it’s a great thing for those who will benefit from it, but at what expense if others (teachers, students, families, neighborhoods) are being negatively impacted by it

Our school sits at a historical site in Charlotte and was specifically built to serve the students of our Black and Brown communicate. Gentrification is erasing that history.

The saddest thing is that during todays meeting, the district said whether the bond passes or not, there’s going to be money to move forward with the project.

“Grade level instruction is anti-racist” Wow! If as teachers we give our Black students & students of color, below grade level work bc they’re not on grade level yet then you’re being a “nice racist” .. you’re feeding into the structural racism in our schools
