Today we found 18 little caterpillars that had arrived in our class.
To make sure we looked after them, we cut them out a leaf to eat.
We have predicted what might happen next.
We canβt wait to show you!

Presenting our maths knowledge as mini teachers was a fantastic hook, allowing us to develop our oracy skills to present.
We are fantastic at facing the speaker and showing how to listen.
The next generation of teachers blossoming in Heron!

A garden arch and some greenery has brought together a beautiful reading nook!
We just love it when a plan comes together.

The freedom of wooden blocks and loose parts is fantastic in developing spatial relationships and mental rotations.
Endless opportunities that not only build on our mathematical skills but, allow opportunities for the children to share their narrative.
@Pawlettprimary
Using our knowledge of tens and estimation, our year one team had great fun putting these skills in to practice, finding the length of the lines using a meter stick.
@Pawlettprimary
Cheese straws today, fairy cakes yesterday.
Measuring and then finding 2 equal parts, exploring heavier and lighter.
It is so important to highlight maths in our day to day and the children were fantastic at recognising the different concepts.
@Pawlettprimary@SJeffriesPPSA
Is there a better way to reinforce your mathematical concepts of partitioning than making your own pizzas!
We applied are knowledge whilst practicing important life skills.

Even our youngest friends had the most wonderful time during positive noticing day.
The children worked very hard to record qualities about their friends, swapping and sharing with fantastic effort.
We all felt wonderful!

Year one were exploring greater than and less than with giant playing cards today. We built numbers and used rulers as a visual cue to aid our understanding.
We were so excited to put our learning into practice with this one!

Today, in pairs, the children presented their retelling of βCanβt You Sleep Little Bearβ to the class.
The retelling shows beautiful teamwork, listening, responding and key phrases that represent the structure of the story.
What a fantastic job!
@Pawlettprimary@SJeffriesPPSA
As a school, we attended St John the Baptist church today for a Harvest service.
We were able to share this with friends and family and took the time to reflect and give thanks.
What a wonderfully engaging service.
Thank you for having us!
@Pawlettprimary@SJeffriesPPSA
English has been busy for our year 1 team this week.
We sequenced the story and decided what happened in the begining, middle and end.
Then we wrote our own sentences to retell the story in the correct order.
What phenomenal work.
Can you guess the story?!

In Heron we ensure that if the children display an interest in something new and independently takes their learning elsewhere, we then build on it then and the next day.
Offering opportunities to engage and explore, in a way that hooks them in!
