Well, after eight years working as a Mental Health Nurse, I’ve taken the plunge and committed to a new adventure.
As of October, I will officially be a Mental Health Nursing Lecturer 😨😨.
Excited for what the future holds.
My highlights from the British Personality Disorder conference was this poster from Suz Hemming highlighting her lived and clinical experience of “personality disorder”.
Benefits to a personality disorder diagnosis? This poster confirms all my gravest concerns.

‘To Catch a Copper’ @Channel4 makes for some uncomfortable watching. Heartbreaking seeing how they treated a woman experiencing a mental health crisis. 💔
@DrJohnABaker Substantial investment in pay and working conditions needed to address some of this. It’s important for nurses to feel their career is both sustainable and rewarding. People also need to have a good quality of life to deal with the challenges a choice to pursue nursing brings.
There is a real issue in nursing, starts from the first day at university, burnout by graduation, into a harshness reality. We need to prepare this generation for the future, and this requires the Universities & the NHS to be very different. https://t.co/3sImPGIwU6

It’s been 63 years since suicide was decriminalised in the UK. But so many of us still use the term ‘commit suicide’.
Why does it matter? Language that links suicide and crime can increase stigma and prevent people struggling with suicidal thoughts from speaking out.
If we choose language like ‘died by suicide’ or ‘took their own life’ we allow space for open conversations and compassion. Let’s choose our words carefully.
