"Abre Alas" is a trad carnival march played by brass blocos in Rio de Janeiro. Written 1889 by Chiquinha Gonzaga, 1st major female composer of popular Brazilian music, it opens many carnival performances. The opening trumpet call lets the revelers know that carnival has arrived!
