Lessons learned: (1) if what you’re hearing makes u defensive, stop & think about why (2) there are systemic problems that u participate in (and have to own) because u are part of the system (3) put the safety on that hair-trigger temper (4) when u fuck up apologise & do better.

@coastlines You’re right. It was wrong of me to make that assumption about you. you’re right to hold industry leadership accountable. I was defensive knowing how hard some of those folks are working for change, seeing it dismissed for surface appearances. But that’s no excuse. I’m sorry

@BeerDad774 @coastlines You’re right and it’s just as wrong for me to make assumptions on my end. I agree that there are diversity issues in this industry. @coastlines I apologise for being defensive. There are important advocates for women, queer folk and indigenous peoples in that group.

@coastlines @mistrchristophr I get that it’s easy to make shallow assumptions when you don’t actually have a clue who any of those people are - and I’m not sure me explaining it to you would be worth my time. There are major problems in this industry. That advocacy group isn’t one of them.
