With $BTC heading to a new ATH, it’s a good moment to share one reflection:
$BTC is the first cryptocurrency ever deployed.
However, most of people doing crypto nowadays are using interoperable standard tokens in different blockchains.
Do you know what’s the first one?

Hey @cz_binance if we gotta remember our roots, you should learn about MistCoin, the prototype which helped shape the ERC20 token standard.
The daddy of $BNB clearly deserves a listing 😉

While everyone in CT is discussing if AI will kill cryptography and our magic internet money, we are looking back at this tutorial from December 2015, where @ethereum was explaining how to create your own cryptocurrencies using MistCoin code.
Just a piece of tokenization history.

If you have to pick one token before switching your wallet to “bunker mode”, the choice is clear.
Just pick the one that has been 100% running since Ethereum launch.

>eth mainnet launches on 30th July 2015
>first 2/3 months just a bunch of nerds deploying random contracts
>October 2015, Ethereum core devs decide it’s time to experiment with tokens
>everyone starts coming up with their own approaches, everyone writes their own code
>3rd November 2015
Ethereum lead devs Avsa and Feindura come up with a first token standard and deploy MistCoin
>they announce it and gift some to the early ethereum fam
>along with MistCoin, Fabian and Avsa deploy a tool to launch custom tokens using the MistCoin code
>hundreds of tokens are deployed following MistCoin code. The first shitcoins on eth.
>Devcon 1, 9–13 November 2015
everyone is suddenly very interested in token standards.
>Discussions about how the standard should look like are still ongoing
>16 days after MistCoin
Fabian and Vitalik propose ERC-20
>Avsa writes a tutorial on the Ethereum blog explaining how to create your own tokens using the MistCoin code and just pushing a few buttons
>first ICOs
>ERC-20 gets finalized
>tokens become a primitive of Ethereum
>DEX, liquidity pools
>stablecoins
>DeFi
>shiba inu or pepe doing multibillion mcaps as erc20 tokens
>tokenized stocks, bonds, everything
>fast forward 11 years
>Wall Street is converting every single financial asset into ERC-20 tokens
>be me, October 2026
>you have seen ZEC pump from $50 to $1,500 and faded miserably
>people say we are on the verge of the next bull market
>some majors are green, so decide to take a chance
>you don’t get the new metas. You don’t even know what the fuck is tiktok
>but you try to grind again, like the good old days
>all the reputable KOLs of 2017/21 era are gone. Probably all of them already made it
>but you lock in CT and you follow all the new KOLs
>it’s the fifth crypto founder pet memecoin you’ve bought this month
>you were +50% up until you bought that iguana token. Roundtrip.
>that AI x Zk snarks play on Solana looks good but the dev nukes the chart
>the game is rigged
>you have zeroed your folio again
>you come across MistCoin trading at a $1.5M market cap

“It was the first wallet to have tokens. In fact we were the ones who wrote the specs for it, which became industry standard, ERC20”
No a small feat @avsa
It’s really this simple.
The Ethereum Foundation’s public experiments which shaped today’s token standards and the way we do DeFi.
This is where tokenization began.

One day, not too far, people will start to wonder why every stablecoin, every tokenized stock, every tokenized bond or in short, every tokenized asset, is called “ERC20 token”.
They’ll find out this post. And right after, they’ll find out about ethereum:0x7fd4d7737597e7b4ee22acbf8d94362343ae0a79

Mist, the first token launchpad, ever
This is how Mist browser “custom token creation tool” looked like back in 2015.
It was the interface that gave birth to MistCoin and hundreds of copies that followed after.
The first “PumpFun”, 7y before Solana even existed.

3rd Nov 2015. Fabian Vogelsteller (@feindura) deploys MistCoin to test tokens on Ethereum. It’s a first prototype of the ERC20 standard.
11th Nov 2015. Fabian, Vitalik, Gavin Wood and others discuss token standards on a dedicated panel at DevCon1.
19th Nov 2015. Fabian and Vitalik propose ERC-20 standard.
