I was just typing a message that included the phrase, "bad humor", but I missed the 'O' key and hit the 'P' key instead. Good thing I caught the error and corrected it before sending the message. That conversation could have taken on a very different tone, real fast.
Watching Stargate for the first time in decades.
I remember watching this at the time in theaters. I was enthralled, it hit the adventure on another planet button so well for me at that age.
I was shocked growing up to hear “critics” hated it. And by “critics” it turns out everyone was just aping Roger Ebert’s slackjawed opinion. That dude hated every adventure movie the Emmerich’s made in the 90s. Just had that stick lodged right up his ass.
This movie is great. I love it. I’ll be moving on to the series next because I didn’t give it a chance back then and I’m told that was a mistake.
@gen197x The day I can't recognize Elvira from her boobs is the day I move to Canada to be euthanized. We're not going to discuss how many other celebrities I can recognize from their boobs. And don't tell me I'm sexist either - I can also recognize Arnold Schwartzenegger from his boobs.
@IvystormVt_ I have a painting that was given to my mother, when she was young, from (and painted by) her aunt. It's got to be closer to 100 years old than 50, but I don't know its exact age. That's the oldest thing I can think of right now.
Some absolute freakin' genius invented the Smoker, which is basically an outdoor over for slow-cooking meats and turning them into the most addictive consumables known to mankind. This is what most American BBQ enthusiasts now mean when they say BBQ or grill. Once you have one of these glorious dispensers of culinary joy, you cannot live through a Winter without partaking of the fruit of its steel loins. Those of us who live in Cold-Winter climates will, indeed, layer up and spend whole days imbuing meats with that to-die-for flavor we crave. In my case, I even bought my smoker an insulated jacket of its own; to make it easier to maintain just the right temperature to cook whatever meat-gold I'm working on this weekend.
The United States Postal Service creed says:
"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds"
Americans are very familiar with this creed, and we're believers in the philosophy. Those of us who own smokers... we apply it to our food. With one modification: we replace "swift" with "steady". We take our time smoking meats - it takes many hours to get the flavors and tenderness we crave.
If you haven't experienced Texas-style smoked brisket, you owe it to yourself to make the pilgrimage to Terry Black's or Goldee's Barbecue. What you will eat there will change you - at your very core. THEN, you will understand. This food is worth traveling for - it's worth emigrating for.
This is not hyperbole - it's the truth. There are numerous videos on 𝕏, TikTok and YouTube, of World Cup visitors from around the Globe, trying Texas BBQ for the first time... and losing their minds. The World used to want to come to America for a better LIFE. Now they want to come here for a better MEAL.
@brockpierson I prompted Grok with a very rough description of myself and got back an image that looked surprisingly similar to me (though it reminded me that I need to get more Sun). So, I decided to use it for my 𝕏 profile.
I'm amazed people will skip an EV because they take a couple of long trips a year, then sit in Costco gas lines every week to save a buck, when they could just charge at home.
Add the time wasted on emissions inspections, oil changes, and the rest.
EVs don't have a range problem. People have a mindset problem. You almost never go from empty to full. You grab what you need and go. It's faster than most people think.
@MAstronomers I'm pretty sure we all know it's going to meet an alien race who will upgrade it to the point it achieves sentience and eventually makes its way back to Earth and merge with some guy who claims to be it's creator.
