@MelissaMcQuaid2 @marinagijzen Will focusing on phonics help? Yes! Do we have enough teachers who know how to help dyslexics? No! I was never even trained to do that as a reading specialist.

A skilled reading teacher can ‘hear’ when students have stopped comprehending due to fluency issues. Comprehension of text is the ultimate goal. I see loads of students here who are excellent decoders but

@MelissaMcQuaid2 @marinagijzen I have always said phonological and phonemic awareness were important crucial building blocks to phonics. 3 cues are from running records. Our Fundations phonics program works off the premise of how important phonics is. This ‘war’ has come about because of our lowest readers.
