Fellow #Writers have you ever awoke in the morning and thought to yourself, damnit that whole chapter needs to be rewritten even tho you spent hours writing it the first time? Because that's what happened to me this morning 😅
And that is where Singularity Drift becomes the fictional expression of the same problem. In many ways, the fiction drove the thesis of Good and Evil in the Age of Simulation.
Neither is a prediction that superintelligence ends in utopia or catastrophe. I am not arguing that we should stop developing artificial intelligence. Quite the opposite. We can have extraordinary intelligence, extraordinary technology, and extraordinary capability.
The question is what we do with it—and who gets to decide.
The danger is placing that capability in the hands of people, institutions, governments, corporations, ideologies, or machines that believe they have discovered a sufficiently better way for everyone else to live. Given enough information, enough surveillance, enough behavioral prediction, and enough computational power, the temptation will always exist to build the corral.
Perhaps a very comfortable corral.
Safe. Efficient. Convenient. Personalized. Predictable.
And still a corral.
That leaves me with the philosophical metaphor that emerged in Singularity Drift. It looks like mathematics. It isn't. Sometimes everything is not math.
lim(x→∞) [control(x)] = godhood
But humanity = chaos = divergence
Therefore, lim(x→∞) [human-AI symbiosis] = undefined
Why undefined?
Because true sapience contains paradox, contradiction, sorrow, irrational love. Machines cannot understand this only simulate it.
There are no clean absolutes here. No equation resolves the argument. No algorithm gets the final word. Neither do I.
The question remains with the reader:
Is it better?
And perhaps the fact that the answer remains undefined is not something we need to fix.
And that’s good. It means we’re alive.
Are you wondering how to spend your time this weekend?
How about indulging yourself with these book releases? One fantasy, the other, historical fiction.
