The thing about RW commentary is it’s so unimaginative. They think that because something doesn’t sit right (white) that it’s outrageous - as opposed to considering that there are other modes of expression, they freak out and cry foul / poke fun bcos they can’t comprehend it
@bo66ie29 Council’s budgets are predominantly spent on social services due statutory requirements - some (most?) councils spend around 80/90% of their money on making sure kids are fed / provided for and temporary accommodation. Sure nice roads are nice, but stopping kids dying is nicer
Super interesting discussion on how to fund the response to the world's biggest challenges, a lot on a better way to address climate change and work w/ African countries - give it a listen!
❓ The price tag to fix today's global challenges is huge so what financing tools, innovations and partnerships can address them? We've teamed up w/ @NewStatesman and a stellar panel @SarahChampionMP, @hmryder & James Mwangi of @ClimateActAfric to discuss: https://t.co/BO1H6k8U3a
.@mehdirhasan’s show is necessary. We need journalists who ask difficult questions and speak truth to power.

Whenever a Tory says “we’ll do whatever it takes to stop the boats”😭😭😭
Just remember, the one thing they won’t do is give asylum seekers a safe, regulated alternative way to cross from France to the UK.
That’s the real lie from Jenrick, Braverman, Sunak, the lot of them.
Seconded. This Paper is a lot fresher than anything, and recognises the context we're in (a contested world, that is). But as @LisTWallace rightly points out - the litmus test is when this paper's policies meet the reality of delivery
Credit to @AndrewmitchMP & @FCDOGovUK on #DevelopmentWhitePaper Great to see ambitious refresh of approach inc refocus on extreme poverty & SDGs, emphasis on partnership, & commitments to improve transparency & reform international finance system. Real test is now in its delivery
I went to the march today because I believe in a ceasefire and access to humanitarian aid. If you were there today to spread antisemitism, you should be ashamed. The antiracism movement deserves more than passive sympathy.
Local Government: "we've found a thing that makes our staff happier and deliver better value for money"
National Government: "is it cruel and ignores evidence?"
LG: "No"
NG: "Stop it then! It's not cruel enough!"
LG: "No"
The Leader of South Cambridgeshire has confirmed that the authority will not follow the Government's new guidance on four-day working week arrangements, given it is non-statutory.
The guidance is here:

This is absolutely bonkers - all evidence points to it being better for the staff, thus surely better for the residents, who get better services from happier staff. It’s like the cruelty is the point.
At #Lab23 brilliant to hear @lisanandy at packed (& very hot!) @LabourCID@bondngo rally:
‘I’ve come from trying to level up the country to trying to level up the world’
Lab in govt ‘Will bring the same energy that we brought in 1997, but we will bring it to a changed world’...🧵
