SIAM wrote to the Petroleum Ministry raising concerns over E20 fuel quality … chloride, moisture, and the damage reportedly being seen in vehicle components.
Then the letter landed on social media.
And suddenly, enlightenment happened: “The report needs to be verified again.” 😂
Well, well, well.
Yesterday, the report was documenting what was happening to vehicles. Today, the same report is being put on trial for its credibility.
Apparently, writing a report in government corridors has now become an exam … how much truth are you allowed to write, what are you expected to leave out, and how quickly must you backtrack if the truth accidentally reaches the public?
But the real question isn’t just what is happening to E20 vehicles.
The real question is: why did the facts in a letter suddenly become so uncomfortable once they reached social media that the letter itself had to be questioned?
Welcome to the world-class E20 PR drama.
First the vehicle suffers.
Then the report suffers.
And finally, apparently, the person who wrote it has to suffer too. 😂
The public pays for the petrol, the vehicle takes the beating, and then the public gets a lecture on top of it.
Now THAT is what you call world-class governance. 😂

Can "Toyato" @Toyota_India answer -
1. What changes did you make to your vehicles to make them e20 compatible after April 2023?
2. Why did you need to make the changes or upgrades if pre 2023 vehicles had no problem with e20?
3. Can you share the "extensive testing" data with names of vehicle models tested and their compatibility status, number of kms driven on e20, and where was the e20 petrol sourced from?
4. Can you provide revised owner's manuals to pre 2023 car owners saying they are "e20 compatible" because originally they warn against using any blend above e10?
5. How many vehicles were serviced at your workshops since April 2025 which underwent repairs for damage due to "contaminated fuel"?

This is where BJP’s arrogance really starts showing.
SIAM had already flagged the problem … most existing vehicles were designed for E10, while moving to E20 meant engineering changes across fuel, electrical, exhaust and engine systems. SIAM also stressed that E10 needed to remain available.
But apparently, listening to the people or even the industry wasn’t part of the plan of @BJP4India
“We decided it. You adjust.” That seems to be the new policy framework of this government.
We recently saw this arrogance. The @dpradhanbjp episode should have taught them that when ego takes over governance, eventually the government pays the political price and the public pays the actual bill.
And honestly, one question keeps coming back …
Is this government working for ordinary citizens or for a handful of businessmen and political friends?

The roadmap already warned about these consequences.
That’s exactly why E20 was supposed to be introduced in phases—not overnight.
But by advancing the rollout and taking away the E10 option, the cost, risk, and uncertainty were simply transferred to millions of vehicle owners.
Consumers deserved a choice. But they got a mandate instead.
SIAM wrote to @PetroleumMin claiming E20 fuel causes "permanent damage to engine parts" with 500\text{ mg/kg} chlorides.
A few headlines later? "SIAM is withdrawing its earlier communication" & claims numbers "need authentication." 🤡
Did the science change overnight, or did the Ministry call?

Imagine we are so upset as a customer.
How upset many brands would be which gave away Diesel to play safe with BS6
There is a reason that no global brand (other than Hyundai) takes us seriously. They keep on selling outdated cars for years.

SIAM FLAGS SERIOUS E20 FUEL QUALITY ISSUES TO GOVERNMENT
Key concerns raised by SIAM:
Chloride contamination reportedly reached 500 mg/kg, raising corrosion and component wear risks.
Moisture levels exceeded 10,000 mg/kg, far above the 3,000 mg/kg specification, increasing the risk of ethanol-water phase separation.
Automakers have reported a sharp rise in fuel injector and fuel pump replacements.
SIAM attributes the issue primarily to ageing underground fuel storage tanks and pipelines.
SIAM has reportedly urged the government to:
Make chloride limits mandatory in E20 fuel specifications.
Enforce stricter quality monitoring by oil marketing companies (OMCs) at retail fuel outlets.
Reality Check 🤐
A men tested 1 batch of Everest Garam Masala in lab costing ₹28,000.
After testing, the results that came will shock you:
Azoxystrobin (Pesticide used in Masala):
Limit~ 0.1 mg/kg
Actual~ 0.200 mg/kg
Difference~ 2x
Means according to FSSAI standards limits it failed in tests.
Just imagine more than 1 crore Everest spice packets are sold every day in India.
But from Everest Side :
• No Clarification
• No Explanation
• No Accountability
This is the condition of the biggest spices brand of India 🤡
There is still a chance to do damage control Modi ji.

> Reshuffle everyone who is holding same position for more than 5 years.
> Change big bureaucrats and secretaries, bring new people with new ideas
> Change puppet CM in various states.
I know this isn't easy for you to come out of inertia and comfort zone, so if you don't want to do these things, there is still a easier and respectable escape for you - there is president election next year, leave PM chair and become president, everyone will happily support you.
Nayara Energy cut petrol Rs.5/L and diesel Rs.3/L on July 1. Today is August 2, 33 days later. IOC no cut. BPCL no cut. HPCL no cut. A PRIVATE company moved in 24 hours. 3 government companies frozen for 33 days. This is what happens when the government IS the monopoly.
Then why did Nitin Gadkari ji claim Petrol will be available at ₹15 litre ! So if a cabinet minister lies : lets throw him out !
Btw another victory for TEAM BHARAT. We have been proved correct !! Now will expose part 2 .
@OGTeamBharat
On Behalf of TEAM BHARAT: let me put out our demands before the Union Government!
Sm please judge and see if these demands are reasonable or no!
* Make E10 Petrol available for E10 compliant vehicles
* Reduce the price of E0 petrol to (currently) ₹90/ litre from the current ₹165-170/ litre & Make it available at all pumps.
* Make E20Fuel 20% cheaper from E0: ₹78/ litre! (current rates).
* Put all documents of E20Fuel policy in public domain.
* Get a solution for pre 2023 vehicles that are affected by Ethanol 20 blended petrol.
* No future roll out of further enhancement of Ethanol blended fuel until a 360° infrastructure is ready for consumers.
* Keep shri Nitin Gadkari ji sir away from the Ethanol issue, it is Conflict of Interest and he must be held accountable for the tall claims he has made including giving petrol at ₹15/litre!

🚨 If E20 is completely safe for all vehicles, why hasn’t the United States approved it for regular Non-Flex-Fuel cars?
For months, we have been told E20 is safe, beneficial and the future of mobility.
So I decided to look beyond official claims and read what independent international studies from the US Department of Energy (DOE), EPA-reviewed research, State of Minnesota materials testing, and other third-party sources have to say.
Here’s what I found.
📌 1. Mileage Loss
• Ethanol contains around 30% less energy per litre than pure petrol.
• Independent estimates suggest:
➡️ E10: 2–5% lower mileage.
➡️ E20: 5–15% lower mileage in vehicles not designed for higher ethanol blends.

Advanced BioFuels USA

📌 2. Emissions
According to a US DOE study (2009):
• E15/E20 showed no additional reduction in carbon monoxide (CO) compared with E10.
• Some vehicles running E20 recorded slightly higher CO emissions.
• NOx emissions increased by 50–75% in small engines compared with straight gasoline.
• Researchers also raised concerns that long-term catalyst degradation and material incompatibility could affect emissions over time, prompting further durability testing.

Environmental Working Group (referencing DOE data)
https://t.co/dTyi6Irmk2
📌 3. Corrosion & Material Damage
A State of Minnesota laboratory study, conducted using SAE/ASTM standards, exposed metal samples to gasoline, E10 and E20 for over 2,000 hours.
The findings reported:
• Greater discoloration in metals exposed to E20.
• Certain alloys developed pitting, measurable corrosion and mass loss after prolonged exposure.
Source:
Renewable Fuels Association (reporting the Minnesota materials study)
https://t.co/hDn8xaLidt
📌 4. Older Vehicles Face Greater Risk
Independent reviews note that higher ethanol blends can:
• absorb moisture,
• accelerate corrosion,
• degrade rubber seals, gaskets and carburetor components,
• increase wear in engines not designed for higher ethanol blends.
Modern flex-fuel vehicles are engineered for high ethanol blends.
Millions of older vehicles are not.

Advanced BioFuels USA

📌 5. The Question Nobody Wants to Answer
In the United States, E20 is not approved for use in ordinary non-flex-fuel vehicles. It requires EPA approval under the Clean Air Act before widespread use.
If E20 is truly safe for every vehicle, why hasn’t one of the world’s largest automotive markets approved it for regular cars?

Minnesota Legislature

This isn’t about being pro ethanol or anti ethanol.
It’s about transparency, informed choice and consumer rights.
If independent studies raise questions about fuel economy, emissions, corrosion and compatibility, why are millions of owners of non-compatible vehicles expected to accept the risk without even being given a choice?
Science should shape policy. But here under the leadership of @narendramodi Policy is shaping science.😂

Instead of echoing PR hand-outs without scrutiny, journalism requires asking tough, basic questions. When government bodies & industry heads make sweeping claims about the E20 fuel rollout, here are the exact questions journalists should have asked before amplifying their statements:
1. On "Years of testing by IOCL, IIP, SIAM & ARAI":
* Where is the raw data, and why is it hidden? Amplifying claims of "scientific backing" means nothing if the data isn't in the public domain. Neither the Ministry nor ARAI has published unredacted component-durability logs or long-term degradation reports. When citizens file RTIs demanding this underlying raw data, applications are systematically stonewalled citing "confidentiality." Why parrot claims of rigorous science without demanding to see the peer-reviewed proof?
2. On "No SIGNIFICANT impact on engine durability, performance, or mileage":
* Who gets to define "significant"?
To an agency looking at macro balance sheets, a 10% drop in fuel economy sounds "insignificant." But for a commuter or cab driver spending ₹10,000 monthly, that translates to an unannounced, recurring loss of ₹7,000–₹10,000 every year. NITI Aayog’s own 2021 roadmap admitted a 6%–7% efficiency drop because ethanol carries 33% less energy density than petrol. Why let authorities dismiss a real financial penalty as "insignificant" without pressing them on who pays for it?
3. On "Older vehicles don't need modifications, except pre-2016 models needing rubber seals":
* If post-2016 vehicles were fine, why did OEMs re-engineer fuel systems in April 2023? E20 material-compatibility standards (fluorocarbon hoses, ethanol-resistant fuel pumps, coated tanks) were only mandated across OEMs starting April 1, 2023 (BS6 Phase II). Vehicles bought between 2016 and early 2023 were engineered for E10 max. Furthermore, owners paid a 15-year upfront Road Tax for registrations valid up to 2031–2038. How can a journalist report this without asking what legal right the state has to alter fuel chemistry nationwide without offering E0/E10 alternatives or retrofits?
4. On "SIAM reports no WIDESPREAD links between E20 and engine failures":
* What defines "widespread," and where is the reporting mechanism? Most owner manuals state that using higher ethanol blends voids the manufacturer warranty. When a 2018 or 2021 car suffers a corroded fuel pump or degraded seal, service centers log it as out-of-pocket "wear and tear." Because these repairs aren't processed as warranty claims, they never enter SIAM's database. Why report SIAM's numbers without asking if their tracking system is designed to ignore out-of-warranty failures?
5. On "Mileage loss and engine damage claims are social media myths":
* Is thermodynamics a myth, or basic high school physics? Ethanol has roughly 33% less calorific value per liter than petrol - that is a hard chemical fact, not social media noise. When an un-tuned engine compensates for a leaner burn by consuming more fuel, mileage drops. Dismissing real-world consumer losses as "online commentary" conveniently shields Oil Marketing Companies from pricing fuel according to its actual energy density.
Reporting without cross-examination isn't journalism - it's stenography. Citizens deserve full transparency, unredacted test data, and fair fuel pricing that reflects lower energy content.

Trust our data bro lol. That's what their data is. Ministers have no clue what's happening in their ministeries but yeah trust us coz we say so and we can have some people on SM say so daily. Crazy is understatement in this E20 fiasco.
They introduced mandatory E20 fuel without even assessing what percentage of vehicles in India are E20 compliant. Even class 5 students have more common sense.
