🚨 ICE announces it will no longer report deaths of recently released detainees.
This comes after the deaths of recently released detainees surge to a two-decade high.
This is really stupid, and it’s not getting enough attention.
The Trump administration is pulling a working $368 million ocean monitoring system out of the water, equipment taxpayers already bought, built, and sank into the deep ocean.
And they are doing it right when the oceans are behaving in ways that alarm the scientists who study them.
Record-breaking temperatures.
A system of Atlantic currents that may be lurching toward collapse.
The response?
Yank out the instruments and walk away.
That is not budgeting. That is smashing the gauges while the engine is on fire and calling it efficiency.
For what? The Trump administration dressed it up as a “nimbler approach” and “smart lifecycle management,” which is fancy nonsense for “we shut it off and hoped nobody would ask why.” There is no return-on-investment analysis. They cannot show taxpayers save a dime, because the gear is already paid for and the science it produces protects real money and real lives.
The kicker: the same people killing the monitors want to mine the deep sea for minerals. So they are destroying the only tools that could measure what that mining does. That is not an accident.
That is the point. You cannot see the damage if you break the instruments first.

Israel has killed more Palestinian children in the last 3 years than Palestinians have killed Israelis of any kind over the last 80 years.
And it’s the Palestinians who are bloodthirsty and violent. Sure.
Insane to think that all through the 90s we were told we absolutely had to let the Klan march in American cities to protect free speech and now they're withholding diplomas, firing people, imposing travel bans, qmd running weekslong smear campaigns for saying the word genocide.
@trumwill I remain obstinately non-Texan despite having lived here since the 90s.
But I've met Texans from Australia. Though I suppose that's a pretty natural transition.
As large data centers spread across the country at an exponential rate, disgruntled residents in their orbit are starting to explore the ways they can push back in civil court.

... Heavily in terms of genres (hell, I did it here). Now reading or listening to an album review often just a hyper-specific list of genres and subgenres with comparisons to other artists therein.
This album feels like what could have been, but alas, we can't have good things.
... This isn't the only album that does that; it was in fact the way of the late 60s with all the various fusions. But something happened in the early 70s that led to an increasing genrefication, so that by the end of the 70s, the way most gets made and talked about is so...
In 2018, 30 experts from the CDC, 20 disaster-response specialists from USAID, and 120 additional USAID staff were on the ground attempting to manage an ebola outbreak in the DRC. This year, as the Ebola virus runs rampant, only 1 CDC staffer is present. https://t.co/9vYV32fE0A
Netanyahu saying it was “my plan to shift the framework for U.S.-Israel defense cooperation from aid to partnership.”
We had Josh Paul on BP this morning to break down what this means. It would give Israel extraordinary leverage over the U.S. by embedding their technology in our supply chains and weapons systems.
