What’s the difference between a gov controlling an algorithm, silently eliminating reach for things it doesn’t like?

Vs the same gov using its power, to demand that the platform remove the things it doesn’t like.?

In China they say what apps can’t do.

With TikTok in the US, they influence, silence and control users algorithmically.

Key to winning any battle is being crystal clear about the lay of the land and not wasting any time or resources fighting a different battle than the one you face. I think even Clausewitz once said something to this effect.

There is no battle within the Republican Party. That party is Trump’s. It now believes in isolationism, protectionism, stolen elections, and the “Deep State”. And having just won an election, it’s not going to suddenly change course: it’s going to double down. And waging some fruitless effort to get someone like Nikki Haley 12% instead of 6% in the 2028 GOP primary seems a bit like carefully walking a strenuously pumped cup of water into a burning house while ignoring the bigger blaze.

The real battle is to wake the world’s most powerful and innovative people from our persistent stupor of distraction on internal divisions, self-doubt, and small aspirations. The politics of the greatest nation on Earth has to be about something more than entertaining itself. Russia, China, and Iran see themselves in grand intergenerational struggles against everything the US and the West represent and have arrayed the full energies of their nations towards eroding our standing and strength by any means necessary.

Meanwhile, despite having a world-leading economy, the strongest fighting force in the world, and all the advantages of freedom, we’ve let our own talentless demagogues convince us that we lead miserably subpar lives, that our institutions have all failed, and that what we really need to do is abandon the burdens and, yes, sacrifices of leadership and focus on walling ourselves off from its rigors instead of meeting them head on and shaping them as the Greatest Generation once did.

We have lost entirely our sense of national mission and purpose, and in that void the politics of resentment, conspiracy, and self-loathing have festered to the point that some among us now think our own elections, FBI, judges, and military personnel are more corrupt than Putin’s.

Because of that, we are, for the first time in a long time, at risk of forfeiting our inheritance as a beacon of individual liberty, dynamic pluralism, and constitutional self-government. That’s the real battle—and any person who still believes in that America needs to start fighting for it immediately against the demagogues in the GOP who want us to reject it.

The Democrats could still stop Trump. It's simply of matter of no longer bringing a handkerchief to a gun fight. Section 3 of the 14th Amendment is the law designed to prevent people like Trump from holding public office even if newly elected. Enforce it.
