FINAL SCORE — THE 2026 PIAA DISTRICT 2 CLASS AAA ⚾️ CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: Dunmore 4, Riverside 2. Dunmore wins back-to-back District 2 ⚾️ Championships for the first time in school history after holding off the Riverside Vikings by the final score in an intense battle Tuesday afternoon at Marywood University and fourth overall in school history (1990, 1996, 2025 and now 2026). We could not have asked for much more from what we got from the pitching trio of Jamie McMynne, Jackson Cady and Mason Stets.
Mason Stets led off the game with a deep double to right center field and came home on a RBI single by Jamie McMynne who hit a hard ground ball between the shortstop and third base hole to give the Bucks an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Jamie McMynne would work in and out of trouble in the bottom of the second, third and fourth innings to keep the one-run lead intact for the Bucks until the Bucks’ bats came alive in the top of the fifth inning thanks to an one-out rally starting with back-to-back singles by Jaedyn Kura and Nate Grochowski who laid down the most beautiful bunt single you will ever see this season down the third base line.
Mason Stets would reach first base on an error by the Vikings second baseman Jason Posluszny to load the bases for Evan Mizenko, who would make them pay once again with a sharp line drive to left field to score Jaedyn Kura from third base and Nate Grochowski from second base to give the Bucks some breathing room and a 3-0 lead.
Jamie McMynne would end the afternoon with a big-time shutout of Riverside’s best hitter Chris Graff to complete five shutout innings in what has to be considered one of the best if not the best, pitching performances in his high school career because of what was at stake this afternoon.
The Bucks would add an extra insurance run in the top of the sixth inning after an Anthony Yerka leadoff walk, a Jimmy Clark hard ground ball to the first base hole and would send Mr. Yerka to third base on the play. Nate Grochowski would reach on another error by the Vikings defense and that would lead to a Mason Stets RBI single right up the diamond to extend the Bucks’ lead to 4-0.
Riverside would add their only two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut Dunmore’s lead down to 2, 4-2, but that is all they would get as Mason Stets closed down the door and the season on the Vikings with a solid seventh inning despite a Chris Graff HBP. Jimmy Clark would handle the last out at first base to clinch an unprecedented second consecutive PIAA District 2 Championship.

We would like to take this time on congratulating Mr. Evan Mizenko on being the Scranton Times Athlete of the Week for his heroics in the 19-inning instant classic this past Thursday against Lake-Lehman. ❤️💙🦌⚾️ #AllInForSC3#BeGreatForSonny#BuckPride#LetsGoBucks
Huge congratulations to RCS Warpath’s Evan Mizenko on an absolutely unbelievable performance yesterday in Dunmore’s historic PIAA playoff victory —a 19 inning marathon, officially the longest game in PIAA history.
Evan showed incredible toughness and compete level all game long:
✅Caught 12 innings
✅Pitched 7 innings
✅Went 4-6 at the plate w/ 3 RBI & a 2-run homer
…and somehow did it all while battling through a broken nose and busted up face following a collision at home plate.
All smiles!

FINAL SCORE (SEMIFINAL ROUND OF THE 2026 PIAA DISTRICT 2 CLASS AAA ⚾️ CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT): Dunmore 6, Lake-Lehman 5 (19 Innings).
Yes ladies and gentlemen, you read that correctly. The Dunmore Bucks outlasted the Black Knights of Lake-Lehman High School in what is being reported as the longest game in PIAA ⚾️ Playoff History that had its so many turns and twists like you would never believe in real life like you do while you are watching a ⚾️ game in the comforts of your own home .
Evan Mizenko hit a two-run home run to deep right center field in the top of the fifth inning and the Bucks rallied from a 2-run deficit in their last at-bat in the seventh inning thanks to back-to-back singles by Nate Grochowski and Mason Stets followed by a sacrifice fly from Mr. Mizenko to center field to cut the deficit down to one, 5-4. And Jackson Cady hit a RBI groundout to second base to tie the game up at five runs apiece as Mason Stets came across home plate.
Both Dunmore and Lake-Lehman had excellent offensive opportunities but could not come through until the top of the 19th inning when Nate Grochowski came through with the eventual game-winning infield single to Lake Lehman’s Scott Egbert with two outs and give Dunmore its first lead of the contest and a lead they would not relinquish until the final out of the game was recorded on a groundout by Jake Evans to Jimmy Clark at first base. The time of the game was 4 hours and 28 minutes as it started at 1:30 PM EDT and ended at 5:58 PM EDT at Lake-Lehman High School.
Our pitching trio of Jamie McMynne, Jackson Cady and Evan Mizenko were spectacular on the mound as they bended but did not break when the outcome of the game was at hand. You guys deserve a round of applause for your dedication and effort to keep the season alive for another day.
The play of the day honor has to go to Jaedyn Kura who threw a bullet strike to Evan Mizenko at home plate in the bottom of the 11th inning to tag Scott Egbert (even though it was only the second out of the inning but it was humongous since Lake-Lehman was threatening with runners on first and second base at the time), this play kept the season alive for at least another frame, never mind eight more.
With today’s win, it now sets up Round 3 between the Dunmore Bucks and the Riverside Vikings for the second consecutive season as they will face off against each other in the 2026 PIAA District 2 Class AAA ⚾️ Championship Game next Tuesday (Tuesday, May 26, 2026) with a site snd time to be announced soon.
