i keep thinking about how today the CDC made an instagram post that said "millions of american adults and children have long covid" and it's like yeah whose fault is that do something about it then???
@sukikage_ Just throwing this out there as someone who’s been battling Long Covid , that Repeat covid infections can cause brain damage and a lot of these comments are showing how many people could be dealing with the consequences of this.
Sorry but you're not going to convince me that loads of elite athletes like World Cup teams and Olympic swimmers getting sick in the summer was always a thing. Flu season was never in July, but since we smashed hundreds of millions of people's immune systems with Covid, anything is possible now.
Who knows what else we can achieve.
So in Germany, to combat the rise in sick leave, the one that they refuse to attribute to Covid and Long Covid, they are making it harder on sick people by requiring them to have a doctors note on the first day of being sick, instead of calling in sick.
This is absurd for many reasons but the most obvious and practical one is that Doctors offices will not be able to handle the influx of patients who now require a note.
Aside from the inability of healthcare to manage this increase, the next most obvious issue that people should have with this ridiculous policy change is that it now creates extra steps for the sick person who needs rest etc.
This is foolish, and it is a cheap shot at the people of Germany who should have been protected by public health and yet another example of government passing the blame for the rise in general illness onto the people instead of their own failings and the virus that is causing the problems.
Will other governments follow Germany's misguided lead?

BREAKING 🧵
A gut bacterium is showing up — or rather disappearing — across all three phases of COVID-19.
Severely ill patients have less of it.
Recovered patients get it back.
Long COVID patients don't.
Its name is Faecalibacterium prausnitzii. And what it does explains a lot. 👇
We have these massive data centers the size of cities and quantum computers that can run trillions of years of computations in seconds, yet we can’t figure out what meds to prescribe someone with complex chronic illness.
Spaceships and robots are advancing hundreds of years into the future and healthcare is stuck in the Stone Age.
What bizarre, horrible, lopsided technological progress.
That Wired article is written for able bodied people who know of Long Covid, but want reassurance that:
a) That person they haven’t seen in a while will get better.
b) To get cash from LC sufferers for bogus treatments
c) Remind people with LC that we are probably making it up
The problem with articles like the Wired one is LongCovid patients aren’t the intended audience. These articles aren’t meant for us. They are for our families, our doctors, our employers, & our elected officials, & they are used to harm us.
Long Covid is not "baffling" at all. There are thousands of publications which show multi-system pathology across all body systems, including extensive evidence of organ damage. The scientific and clinical evidence is undeniable and should be reported about accurately
⚠️‼️In just 24 hours, hope for real treatment for Long COVID has moved forward.
For years, some of us have been pointing to the same pieces of the puzzle.
✅ Herpesvirus reactivations are part of the symptom-driving process in a subgroup
✅ Hypocortisolemia / secondary adrenal insufficiency exists in a subset of patients
✅ Autoimmunity is present in Long COVID, including anti-GPCR antibodies
And yesterday I highlighted again two ideas we have already discussed in previous papers and posts, which now seem even more relevant:
✅ A relevant subgroup of Long COVID / ME/CFS may fit anti-GPCR autoimmunity, especially autonomic and parasympathetic dysfunction
✅ Deep B-cell depletion / immune reset is starting to look like one of the most promising treatment directions
What is still missing?
⬜ To prove which susceptible ancestral HLA-II haplotypes are behind the loss of tolerance and autoimmune subgroups
⬜ To prove whether B-cell reset with CAR-T, like the approach that has already induced remission in lupus, can also become an effective treatment for Long COVID and ME/CFS
That is why this matters so much.
We are no longer just talking about vague “dysregulation.”
We are starting to see a much clearer model:
-persistent antigen / viral reactivation
-immune dysfunction
-autoimmune subgroups
-autonomic and endocrine subgroups
-and, hopefully, targeted immune-reset therapies
This is the first time in a long while that it feels like the field is moving from description toward actionable treatment logic.
That gives me hope.
Below I’m adding the posts I shared yesterday, because they connect directly to what is now being reinforced.
Save this post and let’s revisit it in a few years.
Wonderful day for a new #LongCOVID paper! Thanks to an incredible collaboration with @VirusesImmunity and brilliant work done by @keylas3, we studied the effects of injecting antibodies taken from people with LC into mice compared with what happened

#LongCovid has not decreased from 2020-2024.
Prevalence is 13-23% of US population, increasing 0.4%-1.5% every 3 months.
Incidence was 10-29%, but began increasing in 2023.

Is there an association between human herpesviruses (HHVs) reactivation and Long COVID? We analyzed HHV DNA shedding in saliva and found that HHV-6 correlates with Long COVID severity. Claire Laxton, @S_Tabachnikova, Lily Cooke, Kexin Wang et al.

Don’t ever let anyone in public health tell you there was no way to know Long COVID would come.
People with pre-COVID ME predicted this from the earliest days of the pandemic. But it was business as usual ignoring the existed of PAIS as medicine/govt had done for decades prior.
It is psychologically easier for society to believe children suddenly damaged themselves with iPads than to confront the possibility that adults collectively failed to protect developing brains during an ongoing airborne pandemic
This is all about shifting blame & responsibility
