"L'Arbre et la Tempête. Socotra, l'île oubliée".
Alors que le #Yémen est tristement au coeur de l'actualité, je sors mon premier #livre sur ce pays que j'aime tant. Un ouvrage sur l'archipel de #Socotra, la guerre en cours et l'Histoire d'un peuple exceptionnel.

“The more I studied Zionism, the more I spent time there, the more I realized that every inch of Israel is Palestine. It was always Palestine.
Jews were never not allowed to live there as equal citizens, as they are in Britain or any other Western country. But the establishment of this state really did mean this massive ethnic cleansing that was not just a one-off.”

"Il n'y a plus la part belle qui est faite au reportage dans nos médias, privés comme publics. On a un immense problème de paiement aussi des journalistes pigistes, payés au reportage. Ici à @radiofrance, on est payé 100 euros pour un reportage de guerre" Merci @ArthurSarradin ✊🏼
New @FT piece on Saudi Arabia's effort to mend ties with the UAE in the Houthi crisis, reported by Chloe Cornish, Heba Saleh (@hebamks) and Ahmed Al Omran (@ahmed), quoting my analysis:

My comments concern Egypt. Cairo is very cautious about the Saudi-Houthi conflict, but "I don't think that they think that they can sit this one out."
Caution and participation are not alternatives here. Egypt's caution is real, and it governs how Cairo engages, not whether it does.
Expect restraint in the form of Egypt's involvement, not an absence of it.

#FactCheck Surprised to see @DropSiteNews referring to the Houthi-appointed official in Taiz as the “Governor of Taiz,” without clarifying who appointed him. I suppose even media outlets feel compelled to take sides these days.
A factual correction is also necessary. The Houthis have not captured the majority of Taiz city, nor have their forces reached the city center. Heavy fighting continues along the city’s southern and western flanks.
Taiz city proper has an estimated population of 600,000, while the wider urban area is estimated to exceed one million. Taiz governorate as a whole has approximately 3.5 million residents.

Here are my thoughts shared with @ShamahiAbubakr for @AJEnglish on #Egypt defensive military support to Saudi Arabia . #Yemen
“The Yemeni government just needs political support and economic support, and that has been the case since the war started,” said Mohammed al-Qadhi, an independent Yemeni political and conflict analyst. “The Yemeni government has enough fighters … it lacks weapons and economic support, as well as logistical and technical support. It needs better coordination and command and control for the forces on the ground.”
As for the prospect of any Egyptian involvement, al-Qadhi said many Yemenis remain indebted to Egypt for the support it has provided the republic in the past.
“Yemenis still cherish the Egyptian role with pride and respect … Without the Egyptian role and Nasser’s support, the republic would not have existed,” al-Qadhi said. “The Houthis recall history and how the Egyptian support in defending the republic was vital … though I dismiss a similar role for the Egyptian army today.”
