These resources would have saved me a lot of headaches & probably a lot of post-its & printer paper in grad school! Highly recommend sharing with students doing any kind of scholarly research writing!
Academic writing is wild bc you’ll read four articles just to write one sentence.
Anyway, here’s a thread of resources I’ve been using to speed through this review I’m working on:
@HowtoADHD I started building debt 12 yrs ago bc of the combo of undiagnosed ADHD & losing my parents, & I’ve been fighting to overcome it for years but it’s a battle to overcome. Cried a lot last week when I realized I’m still in no shape to buy a house & it’s going to take me years
@edutopia I think keeping kids out of schools is the right move for safety, but I'm worried about kids who aren't going to fare well w/ online learning, teachers who haven't kept up with developments in ed tech, and parents who still have to go to work but have nowhere to send their kids.
I am incredibly lucky to have a best friend who’s willing to proofread my 80 page project, fix typos, & give feedback on my tendency for wordiness.
But one thing has never changed in our 20+ years of friendship... We will never see eye to eye on commas 😆
That feeling when you have 2 weeks left in grad school, are so close & yet have so much left to do/you’re totally thrilled to be finishing but it also feels bittersweet & you’re a little sad it’s not ending how you expected & it turns out you have a lot of feelings right now
@katerallman I wish I had more of that in undergrad. When I took EDUC 601 w/ @ToddKenreich the syllabus blew me out of the water! Really made a difference in managing my school responsibilities w/out the physical reminder of a class to go to
@katerallman Not particular to this semester, but I’ve had several online classes in grad school. What I appreciated most was clear, structured syllabi w/ details of weekly readings, assignments, & deadlines + clear assignment requirements.
Penguins in the Amazon?! 🐧🌴
Some of the penguins went on a field trip to meet other animals at Shedd. Wellington seemed most interested in the fishes in Amazon Rising! The black-barred silver dollars also seemed interested in their unusual visitor.
Coworkers were debating taking monitors home or not. It was no debate for me! I plan to set my dining room up as much like an office as possible do I can focus!
Alert all teachers & parents! In light of schools closing, a kind soul has gathered a list of education companies who are offering free services during their closed period.

I love this idea. Helping students through the hard parts of life is part of why I wanted to be a teacher in the 1st place. Compassionate teachers are why I got through 12th gr. but learning to talk about emotions would have helped even more.
@JoanneStarer It doesn’t even have to be antibacterial. Any soap is good if you actually practice effective hand washing. Minimum twenty seconds of soap rubbing hands all over NOT under running water. Then rinse.
And just clean your cell phones. That’s the grossest thing you touch all day.
Please stop acting like sitting in a classroom is the pinnacle of learning. I know that is a comfort zone for many people & I’d be worried too if I suddenly had to change how I do my job. But online learning can be great & is not less than. #EdTech#EndRant
It is 2020 & entire degrees can be earned online. Your own universities have fully online & hybrid courses. The technology is out there to make your online classes more than just a bunch of discussion boards. #EdTech#OnlineLearning
You can even have synchronous online classes at your regular class time using video software. Of course you should accommodate students who may not have access to webcams, but still it’s possible to see your students & create a collaborative learning environment online. #EdTech
As universities are going remote or considering it, I have read some comments from faculty that they are concerned their classes won’t be as effective online & that learning will be a lower quality. Really now 👀 #OnlineLearning#HigherEducation
@fsupcs @DillonLandi I couldn’t help but notice how the email from my university yesterday told staff all travel out of state was cancelled , but that the Athletics department was excluded from that.
