Day Three: The Girls Start to Come Out of Their Shells

Lobby and Lucy started to come out of their shells today- frolicking and playing. Even Bunsen got in on the nonsense! They are still quiet and subdued but we hope that with time, they can be 100% themselves.

Golden Retriever Roll Call: Telling Them Apart

Folks asked how to tell the Goldens apart and we agree! Libby and Beaker look almost identical! Libby is older, the smallest and the lightest color. Beaker has an athletic build and the middle shade. Lucy is the biggest and a copper girl. Hope that helps!

It was a super emotional day as we scooped up the golden girls and loaded them up to permanently join our family. Getting all the dogs to mix will take some time, but we are already on our way.

She slipped into a coma under light sedation, had a seizure and had trouble coming out of the whole ordeal. Today, it’s almost like she had a factory. Reset she is alert. She is exploring. Public Training: Brix Meets the World

We are super lucky to have a couple large stores that are cat and dog friendly. Brix needs practice seeing different sights and sounds, so we loaded the squad up and did some public training. We met a ton of people and it was a huge hit!

Peanut came over to play with Kenji and work on some skills. Like sitting and laying down with us. And that we can't chase bicycles or rabbits, and we can't drag humans to fire hydrants, trees or strangers. That's a lot so we focus on her learning just to stay besides her human. Peanut found this really hard to do.

She's not a bad dog. She's not a stubborn dog. She's a dog that hasn't had many boundaries and hasn't been exposed to a lot so she's struggling. Her human is not a bad dog mom. She's just really inexperienced with dogs, has a puppy growing much larger than she ever expected, and she created some really bad habits that she did not mean to create. But we're not going to judge her because it takes a lot of humility to ask for help. And everybody starts somewhere. When we judge or shame a dog owner that is trying to learn to do better, we become part of the problem. She needs to be able to feel comfortable asking questions and she needs to develop confidence. If I want to support a dog doing better, then I have to be supportive of the person at the other end of the leash that's trying to learn.

With some guidance and lots of practice they will get much better. And in the meantime, Kenji loves these visits.

I’ve had a full day with Jennifer Aniston to observe. Full disclosure, she has a lot of stuff going on. I will comment on that when we have a medical care plan. What I can say for sure is that she is a sweetheart, and we are going to love the heck out of her.

Bunsen's Recovery: Back on Walks Again

Bunsen had a tough July and August as his old age REALLY caught up with him. He was having trouble getting up some days from a long rest, and occasionally was crying out in pain and limping. We got him to a vet ASAP as possible in early July and we have tried a couple different things, with a big success being Galliprant. Galliprant is an anti-inflammatory drug used to treat pain and inflammation from osteoarthritis in dogs. It is mild on the kidneys long term, so Bunsen may be on it for the rest of his life. It has REALLY helped him and he is back with us on walks! YAY!
