Did you know Silver Spring was so named because flecks of the mineral mica glimmered in the spring around which Francis Preston Blair built his estate in 1840? Blair built an acorn-shaped gazebo near the spring, and now Acorn Park is believed to be the site of the original spring

1. DHCD Secretary Jake Day announced Wednesday that Long Branch has been selected as the newest Designated Main Street Maryland community. It's the highest tier in the Main Street Maryland program.
