An unsigned letter saying, "Eric Swalwell sexually abused me" would be an anonymous accusation.
4 different women going to reporters, giving their names, having the details of their life history examined, having their friends & family questioned... is not anonymous accusation.
PSA to rising democrat politicians: Whatever happened with Swalwell, take notes. If you don't think the GOP is capable of putting a GOP honey-pot operative in your way and bookmarking that data for 2, 5, even 10 yrs, you don't understand how well the GOP plays the long game!
I believe the brave women who have come forward about Eric Swalwell. Believing survivors must never depend on politics. But that doesn’t make these allegations any less serious or credible. I regret defending someone I thought I knew. Eric’s actions completely disturb and sadden me, and he must be held accountable. I’m committed to listening and to standing firmly with all survivors.
My followers know it sickens me that politics play a part in who is held accountable for abuse. But that does not take away from serious and credible allegations.
I wish the best for his family, and I hope he gets the help he needs. But if Eric Swalwell or his attorney makes a single statement that disparages my wife, I will be filing a lawsuit against him. I’ve already made clear that if he believes anything I’ve said is untrue, he should sue me immediately. As he considers his next steps in the coming days, he should be very careful about what he chooses to say. He should also resign immediately.
Two highly publicized recent affairs in two years -one for many years w/ woman he pressured a donor to hire, then one that prompted his wife to file for divorce.
Not Swalwell or a Democrat.
But Ken Paxton, who might get elected US Senator from Texas - with Trump's endorsement.
The future belongs to men and women of peace. Justice will always triumph over injustice in the end, just as violence will never have the last word, despite all appearances. #ApostolicJourney#Algeria https://t.co/Jp7UTUWUzj
Father John Lydon on Pope Leo: in Peru, we lived together during a time of terrorism and an authoritarian government, and violations of human rights. And he was in the main plaza of our city gathering signatures in defense of human rights, in the plaza surrounded by government buildings.
So this is not somebody who just woke up and decided, well, now is the time to speak about human rights. This is part of his identity…
He's going to continue to speak up based on the moral principles of the church, because that's what he was elected to do. That's what all the popes are supposed to do
Just flagging that Jared Kushner was reportedly in the situation room for a key meeting in the lead up to the war in Iran.
He has billions in investments from the Saudi government, which was pressuring Trump to go to war. Not normal. Not ok. https://t.co/XMf2vM5pLD
We need one another, and we need God. When we acknowledge our fragility, our hearts become open to supporting one another and to invoking the One who can grant what no human power can ensure: the profound reconciliation of hearts and, with it, true #Peace. #ApostolicJourney #Algeria https://t.co/fDNPDU2opE
If what the alleged victim says is true, she suffered a horrible ordeal she can find redress for in legal process and the fact that Swalwell is politically dead. We must broadly condemn sex crimes even if particular cases aren't adjudicated yet. And if guilt is found? Punishment.
I just want to make one final point tonight. A number of women received cease-and-desist letters from Eric Swalwell. My wife did not. Every woman involved, except my wife who went on the record, has remained anonymous. So here’s the question no one can ignore: how did he know who to send those letters to if they were anonymous?
It's been a pretty open secret in D.C. for years that Eric Swalwell is a serial womanizer.
It's crossed my mind that every woman in D.C. may have no more than 3 degrees of separation: being hit on by him, knowing a woman who's been hit on by him, or knowing someone who knows a woman who's been hit on by him. I heard my firsthand "Swalwell hit on me" anecdote back in 2019; I have heard about half a dozen since.
Some of you will respond that simply hitting on a woman is not harassment.
In many cases, that's true. In many cases, it's not -- such as when she's his employee or there's some other kind of inappropriate power imbalance: an intern or staffer at a conference, an intern or staffer on the Hill, an intern or staffer in just about every work context that's obvious.
Regardless, the sheer scale of Swalwell hitting on women in D.C., inappropriately or not, is pretty staggering.
I don't know which number an elected official has to reach before it's cause for concern, but I do estimate that Swalwell may have surpassed that number by a few hundred (if not by a few thousand).
I'm not kidding.
This is all to say that Swalwell was pretty widely known as a serial womanizer years ago, and if you're using a bit of common sense here, you can make a reasonable distinction between a grown man who's an inelegant horndog but still acting ethically and a grown man who treats women like disposable collectibles and leverages his position of power to "collect" them.
Swalwell is the latter.
I do believe the women who came forward this week, and so should you. And I believe they're particularly courageous in coming forward while knowing they would be slandered for their timing.
"They're doing this when Swalwell is running for Governor of California? Curious timing!"
No, dumbass, it's not curious at all. They don't want to see a man who sexually harassed and/or raped them to be the next Governor of California.
They deserve our praise.
If your argument is that Eric Swalwell shouldn’t resign because plenty of Republican predators refuse to resign, you’’re putting politics over principle. The goal is to improve democracy by demanding better leaders; not lowering the standards on both sides.
I don't want to hear any Trump supporting Republican call for Swalwell to resign when they worship a man with 26 credible sexual assault allegations, who is an adjudicated rapist, and a starring role in the Epstein files.
They have no credibility here and it's a joke.
