Reflect:

You cannot control everything that happens in your life.

But you can place your trust in Al-Hafiz.

Ask Allah to protect your iman, heart, family and future, and trust His wisdom in what He allows.

Day 38/99

ٱلْحَفِيظُ | Al-Hafiz

The Preserver, The Guardian.

Allah preserves and protects His creation. Nothing escapes His knowledge, and nothing is beyond His care.

Allah says:

“And your Lord is Guardian over all things.”
(Qur’an 34:21)

When you place your trust in Allah, remember that His protection is greater than anything you can provide for yourself.

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

And if Allah wants to have mercy on his slave then he puts in his heart compassion and kindness,

And if he wants to punish his slave,

he removes from his heart mercy and compassion, replacing it with harshness and hardness.

Today I attended a duroos by Ustadh Abdul Rahman Hassan on Al-Da wa al-Dawa by Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله, and the topic was on how sins take a person away from ihsan.

Islam begins with submission - the outward acts of worship and obedience. But performing the outward actions does not necessarily mean that the heart is protected from its diseases.

Then comes Imqn - when faith settles deeper into the heart. The more a person truly knows Allah ﷻ, fears His punishment, hopes for His mercy, and believes in His promise, the more difficult it becomes for him to willingly disobey Him.

And then there is Ihsan:

“To worship Allah as though you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, then know that He sees you.” (Sahih Muslim 8a)

This is where the awareness of Allah ﷻ becomes constant.

You guard your eyes because Allah sees.
You guard your tongue because Allah hears.
You guard your heart because Allah knows what is hidden within it.

A sin is therefore not merely an isolated act of disobedience. Every sin can place distance between the servant and that state of awareness.

The more sins a person becomes comfortable with, the more his heart can become desensitized. And the more he fights his sins, repents, remembers Allah, and strives for sincerity, the more his heart is purified.

The goal is not merely to look like a Muslim outwardly. The goal is to have iman rooted in the heart and to reach ihsan in how we live before Allah ﷻ.

May Allah ﷻ purify our hearts, forgive our sins, grant us sincere tawbah, and allow us to worship Him with the awareness that He sees us.

Sometimes we make our problems bigger than they really are because we forget how great our Lord is.

Remember Al-Kabīr.

Whatever you are facing, Allah is greater.

Day 37/99

ٱلْكَبِيرُ | Al-Kabir

The Most Great.

Allah is greater than everything. His greatness is absolute, while everything in creation is limited, dependent, and temporary.

Allah says:

“He is the Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Most Great, the Most High.”
(Qur’an 13:9)

Nothing compares to Allah. The greatest things we can imagine are still part of His creation.

How strange does it seem, that these tests which weigh a ton on our chest today will one day elevate us. Elevate us so high, that we will thank Allāh. We will thank Him for testing us, for loving us and for giving us more than anyone could imagine.

WHEN SEEKING KNOWLEDGE EARNS YOU SINS

What if Shaytan does not stop you from seeking knowledge...

but uses your pursuit of knowledge to make you neglect what Allah has already made obligatory upon you?

This is one of the more subtle traps for a student of knowledge.

You attend lessons. Memorise Alfiyyaat. Take notes. Collect books until you have built a massive library. You discuss detailed matters of Fiqh, ‘Aqidah and Manhaj.

All of that may be good.

But while pursuing something virtuous, you may still be neglecting something Allah has already required from you.

A sister may be eager to attend every class and Halaqah, yet begin neglecting the rights of her husband. Hours go into studying beneficial knowledge, while her children receive less of the attention, nurturing and Tarbiyah they need from her.

And Shaytan makes it sound noble:

“But you are studying Allah’s Deen!”

A young brother may become immersed in seeking knowledge. He knows the reference of every narration, the differences of opinion in Fiqh, and finds great pleasure in studying complicated issues.

But when his mother calls, he goes "Allahul Musta'aan..."

When his father needs something: “Baba. Not now please... I'm too busy.”

When his wife expects to be provided financially he uses seeking knowledge as the excuse to escape this obligation.

And Shaytan may make it seem like dedication:

“Knowledge will not give you a portion of itself until you give it your EVERYTHING!”

Allah ﷻ says:

وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا

“And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you show kindness to parents.”
(Surah al-Isra’ 17:23)

And in the Hadith Qudsi, Allah says:

“My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than what I have made obligatory upon him.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 6502)

This is what is easy to forget.

Some knowledge is itself obligatory upon us. But once you move beyond that into additional study, that pursuit cannot become the excuse through which other obligations are neglected.

Knowledge was never meant to remain inside notebooks.

It is supposed to teach you what Allah loves, so that you can live by it.

Jundub ibn ‘Abdullah رضي الله عنه said:

“We learned Iman before we learned the Qur’an. Then we learned the Qur’an, and it increased us in Iman.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah 61)

The Qur’an increased their Iman.

What they learnt changed them.

So something has gone wrong when studying Islam becomes the very reason we begin neglecting the Islam we are studying.

Imagine standing before Allah having read hundreds of books, while your parents remember how often you neglected them.

Imagine filling notebooks with lessons on Fiqh of Nikah, while your spouse remembers the rights you ignored.

Imagine reading volumes about the Tarbiyah of the Salaf, while your own children remember that you were rarely there.

What was all that knowledge supposed to produce?

The goal was never simply to know more.

It was to worship Allah better. With Khashyah. With Taqwa.

So seek knowledge. Attend the classes. Read the books. Sit with the people of knowledge.

But do not forget why you began.

You were seeking knowledge to become closer to Allah.

And Allah has already told you what brings you closest to Him:

Begin with what He has made obligatory upon you. Then spend your life trying to fulfil it with Ihsan.

"Do not be sad over knowledge that was beyond your grasp.

Be sad over knowledge that you have but you did not act upon."

People may overlook you.
Your circumstances may humble you.
The world may make you feel small.

But your Lord is Al-Aliyy.

Raise your heart to Him, seek His help, and remember that nothing is beyond His power.

ٱلْعَلِيُّ | Al-Aliyy

The Most High.

Allah is exalted above all creation. Nothing is above Him, nothing compares to Him, and His greatness is beyond our comprehension.

Allah says:

“And He is the Most High, the Most Great.”
(Qur’an 2:255)

When you recognize Al-Aliyy, you lift your heart above worldly fears and place your hope in the One who is above all things.
