I’m pretty sure they did it this way to avoid making Lucas the bad guy dumping Lindsay for his ex. Plus the dramatic parallel w/Keith left at the altar. Same with Brooke, he couldn’t get back with her best friend that he previously cheated with w/out Brooke giving the 💯% OK
