Love seeing my podcast cohost and 2008 Obama campaign bestie @AnthonyNagatani becoming a bona fide TV commentator of Hawaiian politics!
Maybe we should reboot the @ModelMajorityP eh? 😉

1/ New post is my yearly July 4th meditation on America: "What is Exceptional about 'American Exceptionalism'"
Already received many comments since sending out to email subs last night -- a nuanced critique of "exceptionalism" can be quite the trigger!
Main points 🧵👇
If Wong did not challenge Wise all the way to the Supreme Court and won (based on the 14th amendment), millions of Asian Americans, Latinos, even Native Americans would be born w/o citizenship rights
We would not have Barack Obama, as president. #APAHM
Wong was born in San Francisco in 1873. He went to China to visit family.
Upon return in 1895, he was denied entry back to US by a known anti-Chinese bigot John Wise.
Wise wanted a test case to keep out Chinese. Wong fought for his right and won.#APAHM

As we start this year's Asian American heritage month, I'll spend time learning more about the Wong Kim Ark Supreme Court case of 1898.
It established the "birthright citizenship clause", i.e. if you are born in the US, you are an US citizen. #APAHM

It’s a privileged position I don’t take lightly or for granted.
I’m lucky to be surrounded by amazing, supportive people.
Many immigrants still can’t embrace their hybrid identity, worse yet afraid to.
Much work ahead to build a society where everyone can embrace who they are.
Growing up an immigrant in 🇺🇸🇨🇦, days like Thxgiving/Xmas were met w/ ambivalence (a day to earn 2x hourly wage), while Lunar New Year was met w/ irrelevance (not a holiday can’t take time off)
This year, I embraced my hybrid identity, giving each day the celebration it deserves
The murder of Michelle Go is really fucking with me today.
She was just a year older than me, and one of the things my parents always warned me of when I rode the subway alone as a kid was to always keep my back against the wall while waiting on the platform.
Growing up an immigrant and raised by a single mom, Christmas was just a much-needed extra day off.
No ritual. No present. No tradition.
All that changed this year, and I cannot be more grateful for the experience. #MerryChristmas
"Communist Wu needs to go back to China..."
"Mayor Wuhan"
"Michelle Wuhan"
So disgusting yet so predictable...and fanned knowingly by extreme parts of the GOP
America continues to be its own worst enemy sometimes...
As a fellow Canadian-Chinese immigrant (also born in the Northeastern region of China 东北人)
Couldn't be more proud to see @SimuLiu on @nbcsnl 🇨🇦🇨🇳

We are shocked and confused by Speaker @Rendon63rd’s inexplicable decision to remove a leader like Asm. @Evan_Low from his role as Chair of the Business and Professions Committee without explanation. This is counter to CA’s commitment to equity. #CALeg

HUGE congrats to @wutrain (Boston) and @AftabPureval (Cincinnati) for winning their respective mayoral races!
The Asian American community needs more leaders like you!
Congratulations @wutrain, first woman and first person of color to be elected Mayor of Boston! | Who Is Michelle Wu? Boston Elects New Mayor In Historic Race – CBS Boston https://t.co/ZhNnL7SiBV
