In short, trust has been devolved. People no longer have a default in trust institutions; they trust and follow individuals they’ve personally selected. People don’t believe something just because it was in their local newspaper. They believe it because they trust who said it.
Organizations rarely fail all at once. They fail through reasonable interpretations that compound until the system can no longer tell the difference between alignment and delusion.
