🧵The samurai lived by a code. Not just on the battlefield but in every decision, every action, every moment.
A modern samurai brings these seven ancient virtues into their life, on and off the mats:

18 months on the mat. Countless early mornings with the 5am Breakfast Club. This week, Master Ricardo Liborio honored me with my first stripe as a blue belt.
Grateful for a coach who built something rare, a community rooted in real values. The journey continues. Ossss. #jiujitsu
White belts: your ego has no place on the mat.
Going 100% with colored belts doesn’t prove you’re tough. It proves you don’t understand #JiuJitsu yet. Every loss is a lesson if you’re paying attention.
Rolling with older guys? Respect experience. Dad strength will humble you.
What I tell white belts:
Defense wins fights.
Not flashy submissions. Your ability to survive bad positions and escape danger is what keeps you alive long enough to win.
Train escapes until they’re automatic. Bad positions demand technique, not panic.
Defense is dignity.
@Bow_B4_BJJ Agree 100%. When I roll with white belts, I ask them if there is anything they want to work on. Most, not all white belts, want to learn submissions but what they quickly realize in our roll is they lack the fundamentals to survive bad positions or critical mistakes.
She doesn’t know what “intimidated” means yet.
She just sees an opportunity to test herself against the best challenge in the room.
I pray she never loses that.
The mat teaches. But sometimes, so do our kids.

🧵My daughter is 3. She’s in the 4-7 year old jiu jitsu class.
She’s the smallest one there by far.
Today I watched her teach me something about courage I’ll never forget.
As a dad, I’ve never been more proud.
Not because she successfully took him down and won. But because she picked the hardest challenge available and refused to quit until she got it.
At 3 years old, she already knows: you don’t grow by choosing easy.
@Bow_B4_BJJ Agree with this statement. I personally worked on a defensive game before progressing into submissions. I found it helpful to learn escapes from various positions (side control, guard, back, etc.) so I was more comfortable when I moved into an attack sequence.
5am #BJJ with my brothers isn’t just exercise. It’s a community of men who understand:
→ Discipline is doing it when you don’t feel like it
→ Growth requires uncomfortable mornings
→ Brotherhood is built through shared sacrifice
We’re not training. We’re transforming.
Being a girl dad means asking yourself:
Would I want her to marry someone like me?
Someone who keeps promises like I do?
Treats her mother like I do?
Shows up under pressure like I do?
Your answer should terrify you into being better.

A man without a code drifts with every wave.
A man with a code creates gravity.
His kids know what he stands for always.
His wife knows what to expect every day.
Principles don’t cage you. They make you unmovable when it matters.

Closed guard lesson: when trapped, don’t panic.
- Create space
- Find angles
- Change levels
Space → Angles → Pass Guard
Same principle off the mat: Feeling trapped? Don’t force your way out. Create space first. Then find the angle that works.
