Sixteen-year-old Louise Izere has become the first known #Rwandan to reach the North Pole after completing a 10-day scientific and educational expedition aboard a nuclear-powered icebreaker.
• Izere, a #Rwanda Coding Academy student, was among young people from 22 countries selected for the expedition from about 5,000 applicants.
• The journey took participants from Murmansk, Russia, to the North Pole and Franz Josef Land, combining Arctic exploration with hands-on science and technology activities.
• During the expedition, participants worked with scientists and took part in experiments involving Arctic communications, aerospace technology, and nuclear technologies.
• Izere said the experience inspired her to dream bigger about her future and showed her that science can open opportunities to explore places once thought impossibly far away.

Today, RIB Secretary General @P_Kabanda officially opened the Operation USALAMA XI Review, and Operation Usalama XII planning Meeting, bringing together stakeholders from the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (#EAPCC0) and the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (#SARPCCO).
Operation USALAMA is an annual, INTERPOL - supported joint security and law enforcement initiative conducted across Eastern and Southern Africa to combat terrorism, transnational organized crime and dismantling of Organized Criminal Groups.
In his opening remarks, RIB Secretary General emphasized that the success of Operation USALAMA should not be measured solely by the number of arrests or seizures, but by the lasting partnerships built through joint investigations, coordinated operations, and the shared commitment to protecting citizens and safeguarding borders.
He encouraged participants to engage openly, exchange best practices, identify emerging threats, and develop practical solutions that will strengthen operational effectiveness and enhance regional security cooperation.
Rwanda Coding Academy (RCA) has been named among the world’s top 50 schools in the running for the $1 million Global Schools Prize 2026.

“To you the youth who are here, you are the majority of Rwanda’s population. Having 75% of the population under 30 is an immense source of strength. We have to ensure that strength is anchored in our values and meaningful work that enable you to build yourself and your country. You cannot build Rwanda without building yourself first. That is what I ask of you and that is my wish for you.” President Kagame | End of Year Party
