Over the years, I learnt that mostly Left-Liberals are fronts for Islamists.

They sugar-coat every regressive belief, every blood-curdling act of violence.

The empathy that is so readily extended to this community can seem strangely conditional when the victims are Hindu or Jewish.

However, what I’ve learnt recently about Republican America is that they are not very different.

No, they don’t sugar-coat Islamists. But they certainly don’t take them on either. It’s like they carry these big guns but avert their eyes.

Their anger, rage and racism are reserved only for hardworking, well-educated, tax-paying brown Hindus (and our ‘false gods’) and Jews (because they ‘control’ the US).

All that John Wayne swagger, all those pretty, blonde, blue-eyed Christian girls, all that chest-thumping about American courage and traditional values…perhaps it was always more Hollywood fantasy than lived conviction.

So, bring out the guns. Identify the enemy. Defend the White Christian American way of life.

But who do we shoot? The Hindu, of course.

Courage, it seems, is a lot easier when your target is unlikely to shoot back.
