๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ ๐๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ง๐ซ: AUDA-NEPAD has officially kickstarted a high-level Regional Engagement of Health and Biosafety Regulators from West Africa, under the Africa Integrated Vector Management (IVM) Platform.
This engagement brings together national regulators and regional bodiesโincluding UEMOA, CILSS, and WAHOโto advance regulatory preparedness for innovative vector control tools, particularly genetically modified mosquitoes and gene drive technologies.
Also in attendance were representatives of the Ministers of Health, Environment, Research & Higher Education, underscoring national ownership
Special focus was placed on transboundary concerns, including the need for regional coordination, risk communication, and joint oversight in the face of cross-border impacts of gene drive releases
This meeting is a timely step toward building coherent, science-based, and regionally harmonised regulatory systems that support innovation while safeguarding public and environmental health.
