Reuters spent a week with Mid-Ohio Food Collective, documenting the rising need for food across Ohio — and the shrinking federal support meant to help.
They met families facing empty fridges. Volunteers who now rely on the same food they distribute. Staff working overtime to stretch every dollar, every pound of food.
“When there was nothing else to eat,” one mother shared, “I filled my kids’ bellies with tap water.” She’s bracing for more “water days.”

Here, at Broad Street Presbyterian Church's Food Pantry, communities are stepping up for their neighbors.
But Republicans’ budget bill devastates those efforts—stripping critical resources from Ohio families.
The Senate must reject it. Families, seniors, veterans > billionaire tax breaks.
Today, I visited the food pantry at Broad Street Presbyterian Church to witness firsthand how our community is addressing food insecurity in Columbus. Afterwards, I was reminded of the thousands of Ohio families, who will be stripped of their critical food assistance programs, due to the Republican budget bill. When Republicans refuse to govern responsibly, it’s the community that’s left to pick up the pieces.

Strong farms🤝 stronger communities.
This #NationalAgDay we celebrate the hardworking farmers and who help put food on our tables — and the vital hands that make it all possible. That's why we work hand-in-hand with local farmers to provide fresh, nutritious food to families across Ohio.
Together, we’re building a more food-secure future. 🥕 🥬

Thank you to the members of the Ohio congressional delegation and their staff for taking the time to meet with us. Federal nutrition programs are a lifeline for many in our communities—ranging from families, children, and seniors—and we will continue working to protect them.

In 2024, @Walmart and @SamsClub stores in Mid-Ohio Food Collective’s 20-county service area donated more than 11 million pounds of groceries to help our neighbors in need. This year, the community is determined to continue to Fight Hunger and Spark Change.
Now through March 31, donations and roundups at the register in-store and on https://t.co/k7BKTz55nK– plus the purchase of select products from participating suppliers – means more food and resources for people facing hunger right here in central and eastern Ohio #fighthungersparkchange
