We are delighted to mark a major milestone in advancing meaningful child participation with the establishment of the Nairobi County Children's Council. This is far more than the formation of a new structure; it is a bold commitment to embedding children's voices within decision-making and governance processes, ensuring children are recognized not only as beneficiaries of programmes but as active partners and agents of change.
The committee represents the first step towards the establishment of Save the Children's Children's Advisory Board, a platform that will strengthen child participation and accountability by enabling children to contribute to programme design, advocacy, policy discussions, and organizational decision-making. Through this initiative, children will help shape solutions that respond to their realities while advancing their rights to survival, learning, protection, and participation.
Bringing together children from Mathare, Kamukunji, and Kibra, the inaugural meeting held on Friday 26th June 2026 provided an opportunity for the children to be sensitized on their roles and responsibilities as members of the committee, strengthening their understanding of child rights, leadership, governance, and advocacy. The children also democratically elected their representatives, who will champion the priorities and voices of their peers and contribute to county and national conversations on issues affecting children.
The Nairobi County Children's Council will serve as a vital platform for dialogue between children, government institutions, schools, and other stakeholders, creating opportunities for children to participate in consultations, accountability forums, and policy discussions.
Gifted and talented. Unfortunately our government has not invested in identifying such talents and provide them with educational opportunities or programmes that will help them achieve their potential. Hey @EduMinKenya wake up!
@JennyMatheson@MrAllington@JennyMatheson i saw from one of your tweets that you are testing a handwriting AI solution. I am interested to know more about it. DM
True. Over 2m children including those with didabilities are in schools excluded from government capitation. This should change and have all children enrolled in APBET schools benefit from capitation. @acdnet_kenya@cresnetcentre@EACHRights@HakiKNCHR@EduReformsKenya
Special needs Vs Disability Incusive! use of this terms in education policy & advocacy is confusing to both policy makers & practitioners! In kenya, the sector policy for LWD's deliberately didn't cover special needs. Where are they covered? We need a conversation! @acdnet_kenya
Grateful to @TheActionKenya for facilitating me to attend the Early Childhood conference representing @cresnetcentre and @acdnet_kenya . A great opportunity for learning, scouting partnerships, funders and showcasing our disability inclusion work.
Well done, my friend Makueni Governor @GvnMutula - this is the stuff that deserves a Standing Ovation. Teachers at this level deserve this kind of security. Congrats!

The cartels in the education sector are not happy with the government move to distribute textbooks directly to schools. They are doing everything to sabotage the programme. This act amounts to violation of the rights of children. Shame on people involved
People often use words intended to soften #disability, disability is what it is. The use of euphemisms implies that disability is something bad. It’s a denial of #reality and a way of avoiding to talk about disabilities. Such words also perpetuate stereotypes & create more stigma
@ZBauermaster Wow! Lovely. I am developing digital skills training to teach early grade learners 3D printing, coding, robotics etc in nairobi, Kenya. I welcome ideas and partnerships
