Ethiopia Seeks UAE Port Partnership to Address Landlocked Challenges: Advisor to PM
🇪🇹🇦🇪 Ethiopia must work closely with the UAE to overcome the critical challenges of its landlocked position through joint infrastructure investment, Getachew Reda, advisor to the Ethiopian PM, said at the UAE-Africa Dialogue in Addis Ababa, as reported by a Sputnik Africa correspondent.
🟠 The two-day forum aims to strengthen UAE-Africa cooperation and explore new partnerships.
🟠 The UAE is already collaborating with Ethiopia on port development in Berbera, as well as corridor and railway infrastructure.
🟠 An MoU was also signed between Ethiopia's Institute of Foreign Affairs and the UAE's Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy to further build trust-based relations.
So I visited an Austro-Hungarian castle in Italy showing a map of the Horn of Africa from centuries ago. And of course Somalia did not include Somaliland then, just as it doesn’t include it now.
Egypt 🇪🇬 has secured a major real estate deal with Dubai-based Majid Al Futtaim to develop a mixed-use complex in Mada City, New Cairo.
The initial value of the project exceeds $3.1 billion, with a total value set to be over $4 billion upon completion.
Majid Al Futtaim will develop a 2.3-square-kilometre section, including 6,000 homes, office and retail spaces, hospitality venues, and hotels.
This deal is part of a larger trend of increasing Gulf investment in Egypt 🇪🇬 , highlighted by the historic $35 billion Ras El Hekma development.
During my meeting with the head of the Berbera Free Zone, he made a powerful point: DP World did not come to Somaliland merely as a company from Dubai to operate a port. It came to invest in people, create opportunities, and build long-term prosperity.
Today, more than 60 companies operate within the Free Zone, creating jobs and opening new opportunities for Somaliland’s people.
This is the UAE approach to investment around the world: building infrastructure, empowering communities, and creating sustainable economic growth.

Lagos has become Africa's most expensive city for premium office fit-outs, with costs reaching $2,718 per square metre.
This trend is driven by strong demand for Grade A workspaces, reliance on imported materials, currency volatility, and specialist systems.
Turner & Townsend’s report ranks Lagos top in real dollar terms, while Nairobi leads in economic comparability, and Johannesburg follows Lagos in actual spend.
African commercial real estate is increasingly shaped by global trends, with companies seeking modern, technology-enabled, amenity-rich office environments.
Six months after Israel🇮🇱 recognized Somaliland, both countries are transitioning toward concrete economic cooperation.
High-level visits and talks have led to the signing of a Strategic Joint Declaration of Cooperation covering agriculture, water management, technology, and infrastructure.
Israeli expertise is expected to help Somaliland address developmental challenges and attract foreign investment.
Somaliland aims to position itself as a key trade and logistics hub in the Horn of Africa, leveraging its strategic port and new partnerships.
Bismillahi Rahmani Rahiim;
I have arrived in Israel as the first President of the Republic of Somaliland to undertake a State Visit, and I am honoured by the warm welcome extended by my friend, President @Isaac_Herzog
For thirty-five years, the people of Somaliland have built a peaceful, democratic, and resilient nation. We asked the world: Do you see us? Israel answered first. Today marks a historic milestone in our journey and the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship between Somaliland and Israel.
To the people of Somaliland: I carry your hopes and aspirations with me. Generations have struggled, sacrificed, and persevered to bring our nation to this moment. We will seize this opportunity with confidence, wisdom, and determination, always guided by the interests of our people and our Republic.
Today, history is being written, and Somaliland stands ready to forge a shared future founded on friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect.
#SomalilandIsrael
I was delighted to receive the first-ever Ambassador of Somaliland to Israel, Mohamed Hagi, who presented his diplomatic credentials this morning.
Ambassador Hagi was kind enough to praise our orchestra, who played the national anthem of Somaliland for the first time ever in Israel.
This important new partnership
between our nations will bring a shared future of cooperation in a range of fields to the benefit of both our peoples and the entire region.
Ken Griffin, founder of Citadel, has a $10 plaque behind his desk that reads: "If we're all going to eat, someone has to sell."
Of all the things this man could surround himself with, he chose a cheap plaque with a blunt truth about business.
"You're always selling. You're selling to candidates. You're selling to vendors, you're selling to counterparties, you're selling to customers."
And if you're always selling, you know what you're going to hear a lot of?
"No."
Griffin doesn't sugarcoat it. He tells two stories that illustrate just how brutal rejection can be.
1994 was a rough year, with Citadel losing ~4% of its capital. Griffin flew to Switzerland for a crucial lunch meeting, sat down, and his guest arrived only to say:
"Oh, I thought you were John Griffin from Fen Church. I got to go."
His lunch date got up and left the table.
Later that afternoon, a Swiss banker spent 45 minutes with him in a beautiful office, smoking a cigar, before closing with:
"Such a pity that such a bright young man picked the wrong career."
Two rejections in one day for the founder of one of the most successful hedge funds in history — and his takeaway was simply this:
"You just have to tolerate. You're going to hear no a lot, but you need to become accustomed to having to market your ideas and market what you represent and what you stand for."
Absorbing rejection and continuing anyway is the actual skill, whether you're hiring, raising capital, or winning customers.
Most people avoid selling because they're afraid of no. The ones who build great things have learned to expect it.
Sweden is investing in regional trade

Congratulations to Michael Lotem on his appointment as Israel’s first Ambassador to Somaliland.
A meaningful step in strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Israel and Somaliland. Wishing him great success in his new role.
