The Federal Budget 2026-27 is a positive and balanced step towards economic stability, with higher revenues and positive measures to reduce the fiscal deficit. However, it falls short of providing adequate relief to the poor and middle-income groups. Despite improving economic indicators, people continue to struggle with high inflation, rising electricity, gas and fuel prices, unemployment, and mounting financial pressure. The true success of this budget will be judged by its ability to translate economic stability into meaningful relief for the common citizen.

Such cowardly attacks expose the evil intent of terrorists who seek to spread fear, instability, and uncertainty in the country. Those who target innocent people during national and religious celebrations have no regard for humanity or Islam. The nation mourns this painful loss, while public anger and grief continue to grow.

The country’s Federal Constitutional Court has further intensified pressure on the national economy by upholding the legality and constitutionality of the super tax. Such measures, taken in the present economic climate, appear to accelerate the erosion of commercial activity and undermine the foundations of a business-friendly environment.

Historically, it has been rare to witness taxation enforced through coercive means such as arrests, or through the imposition of extraordinary levies like the super tax with retrospective effect on ongoing businesses. Policies of this nature create uncertainty, discourage investment, and weaken confidence in the country’s economic and regulatory framework.

The 14-hour-long power outage in Balochistan, including Quetta, has turned into a serious crisis for the people. If such conditions prevail in a major city like Quetta, one can only imagine the hardships faced by those living in remote areas. Prolonged electricity cuts are making life increasingly difficult for already distressed communities. The worst-affected are daily wage workers, small business owners, and low-income families, whose livelihoods are being severely disrupted.
