Slowly but Steadily Killing MGNREGA Scheme by Modi Government

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), also known as the "100 Days Work Scheme," is a flagship employment guarantee scheme introduced by UPA Government.

It guarantees 100 days of work in a financial year to every adult member of a household in rural India, on demand, at minimum wages.

The MGNREGA has been lauded for its role in poverty alleviation, rural development, and social empowerment.

However, under the Modi Government, the scheme has been facing a number of challenges, including:

* **Reduced budgetary allocation**
The Modi Government has reduced the budgetary allocation for MGNREGA by 35% since 2014. This has led to a decline in the number of workdays generated under the scheme.

* **Delayed wage payments**
The payment of wages under MGNREGA has been delayed in many states. This has caused hardship to workers, who are often dependent on MGNREGA wages for their livelihood.

* **Lack of transparency**
There has been a lack of transparency in the implementation of MGNREGA. This has made it difficult to monitor the scheme and ensure that it is being implemented effectively.

As a result of these challenges, the MGNREGA has been under threat of being killed by the Modi Government. This is a matter of grave concern, as the MGNREGA is a lifeline for millions of rural Indians.

Here is some data to support the claim that the Modi Government is killing the MGNREGA scheme:

📍Budget Allocation
The budgetary allocation for MGNREGA has declined from Rs. 60,000 crore in 2014-15 to Rs. 39,000 crore in 2023-24.

📍Workdays Generated
The number of workdays generated under MGNREGA has declined from 238.3 crore in 2014-15 to 193.3 crore in 2022-23.

📍2024 Budget allocation was ₹19,297 crore less than 2023-24 expenditure, as a share of the total Budget, this marks a 10-year low

📍Wage Payments
The percentage of timely wage payments under MGNREGA has declined from 83% in 2014-15 to 73% in 2022-23.

These data show that the Modi Government is not committed to the MGNREGA scheme.
The decline in budgetary allocation, workdays generated, and timely wage payments is a clear indication that the government is trying to kill the scheme.

The killing of the MGNREGA scheme would be a major setback for rural India.
The scheme has played a vital role in poverty alleviation, rural development, and social empowerment. Without it, millions of rural Indians would be left destitute.
