1. CALLIE - Callie (9X ON EPL AND 171 DAYS ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ)- is a nervous but friendly cat who was surrendered due to a change in her owners living situation. Callie has had intermittent diarrhea, vomiting, and decreased appetite while in our care. It has been determined that Callie has infiltrative bowel disease, but the underlying cause is unknown at this time. Callie will need follow up diagnostics with an outside veterinarian to help determine the cause of her bowel disease, and will likely need medication long term to manage it. Callie has allowed all handling during their exams and did well in her previous foster home in terms of her behavior. APPETITE/EATING ISSUES IS A DEATH SENTENCE IN SHELTER. This evaluation/diagnosis means that CALLIE will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
2. MILO - Milo is a geriatric cat with chronic kidney disease. He is also very underweight and has significant dental disease, but has been eating well in shelter and is friendly. Milo will need continued nursing care and veterinary follow-up for his medical issues. This evaluation/diagnosis means that MILO will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
3. BUBBLES - She is a sweet, mature cat with a swollen left eye that we suspect is due to a mass or an infection. She is eating and active at this time and needs placement in a home to enjoy her senior days. This evaluation/diagnosis means that BUBBLES will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
4. THE CHEESE KITTIES - These little ones need placement for medical reasons, several kittens in their litter tested positive for panleukopenia and declined rapidly while in care. They have been active and generally eating well, but they need continued monitoring and feedings during the panleukopenia quarantine period that are beyond that scope of what's possible in care. From Andy Borowitz:
WASHINGTONโAn awkward scene unfolded at Friday's Cabinet meeting after JD Vance covered a seemingly unresponsive Donald J. Trump with a sheet.
His eyes closed and head slumped forward, Trump had been motionless for over seven minutes before Vance gently shrouded him.
โWe have lost a great president and a great American,โ said Vance, speaking to his colleagues from prepared remarks. โNo one can hope to fill his Florsheims, but from this day forward I will strive toโโ
โGet away from me!โ Trump bellowed as he threw off the sheet. โYouโre the bastard who killed the Pope!โ

A volunteer writes: Please see Winter with any questions, comments, and concerns regarding scheduling, policy, and programming. She's been here since March but that's not why she's been fast tracked to upper management. It's her skills! For consideration and approval, Winter utilizes a rigorous process that only she understands and because task delegation hasn't been a priority (please don't tell her I said that) we've been left trying to parse out the details. Winter knows who she is and we celebrate her confident stride, but just because she's a picture of self assuredness and leadership, doesn't mean shelter life has been exactly easy for her. We know Winter likes to be the one to make decisions but the Care Center doesn't always have a lot of opportunities for that. We don't know that much about her life before, but Winter isn't a fan of other cats and is hoping her next role will be supervising a family. Winter is now beginning to accept treats and she has responded positively to gabapentin. โค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ป

My foster writes: Callie is one of the sweetest cats we've had the pleasure of caring for. We as fosters are always saying that she is going to be some lucky person's BEST friend. She loves attention from her favorite humans so much; she loves to cuddle, get pets and forehead kisses, and have little conversations (she has a very cute and funny range of meows!) Her purr is so quiet but you will definitely feel it while she relaxes in your lap for hours each day. When she's happy or excited, her tail puffs up. She loves churu treats and playing with wand toys too, but not nearly as much as she loves just hanging out with you on your lap or as a neat little loaf nearby. She is shy at first and sensitive, but she always pushes herself out of her comfort zone to show and receive affection. It's very heartwarming! At first she was ALWAYS in my lap but as she's gotten more confident she's been exploring our apartment and wanting to play more (that being said, she still wants to sit in my lap for hours each day!) She's also fine with getting her nails trimmed, which is great, because she loves to make powerful grippy biscuits on whatever surface she's blissing out on, including your lap. She would be a fantastic cat for someone seeking a little best friend who will give your love back to you tenfold. Reach out to learn more about this special girl! โค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ป

โก๏ธ GARFIELD THEODORE IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIOREAL REASONS - He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging behavior during interactions. He is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. Without providing activity for his mind and body, the cat may react with rough play, potentially resulting in bite/scratch incidents. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
A volunteer writes: Garfield Theodore sees the bigger picture, so if you see him sitting pressed up against the door with his fur going in every direction, please just know it's part of a plan. He's an extraordinarily smart guy who feels compelled to manage several projects concurrently, so Garfield Theodore has taken on shelter life with that type of understanding exuberance. He knows he has to work a little harder to stand out so he's always trying out some new moves that he hopes might impress you. Garfield Theodore's latest is a bouncy leap onto my shoulders. Making himself big and tall, he gave me a hug and then nuzzled so emphatically I couldn't help but fall in love. He did this several times with slight variations, one time putting his whole nose into my ear but I think he was just trying to ask which one I think his forever family will most like. A life of the party cat who loves to be in the mix, Garfield Theodore's looking to find an experienced cat family who will provide cat projects for him to preside over and a forever family to love. โค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ป

A volunteer writes: Daba makes an adorable first impression, if not an entirely welcoming one and that's ok. I admired how he stretched his little paw out on his box like he was in mid-knead and he decided to leave it as is. Really, so cute. I said songs could be written about that paw and Daba surreptitiously rolled his eyes and tried to explain that he was busy by pretending to nap. I know very well that snuggles (and compliments) aren't always the way to someone's heart, so I quietly closed Daba's condo door to sit and read for a little bit. The Daba I met before reading and the Daba I met afterwards are almost two different cats. The next time I held my hand out, he nuzzled into me and looked for more pets. This makes a little sense because in his previous home Daba was friendly and outgoing with people and other cats. There are times he likes to take a moment or so to warm up, which we see at the shelter, but we're so sure that after a little time, a lot of patience and love, Daba will become the sparkly young cat he's meant to become. Daba tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. โค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ป

Milo will need continued nursing care and veterinary follow-up for his medical issues. This evaluation/diagnosis means that MILO will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Milo is a handsome senior gentleman with a friendly personality and plenty of love to give. Affectionate, talkative, and independent, he's the kind of cat who enjoys being part of the household without demanding constant attention. You'll usually find him wherever the people are-lounging in the living room, supervising activity in the kitchen, or watching the world go by from his favorite window perch. Milo enjoys gentle play and especially likes toys that crinkle. He still has a playful side and loves chasing the occasional bug or moth that wanders indoors. When it comes to scratching, he prefers rope, carpeted surfaces, and cardboard scratchers. A low-maintenance eater, Milo happily enjoys Friskies wet and dry food. As a senior cat, he's looking for a patient adopter who will appreciate his companionship and understand that he may need some extra support. Milo has been reported to scratch furniture and has had occasional litter box accidents, so he may do best with an adopter willing to help him adjust to a new environment and provide appropriate scratching options and litter box management. If you're looking for a sweet, conversational companion who enjoys sharing your space and keeping you company throughout the day, Milo may be the perfect match. โค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ป
