July 17, 2026 Elizabeth Chalker “Rainbow – Bow – ARK – ARC – Covenant: Warfare and Protection for God’s Children.” Restoration after wrath. A resting place after the storm. The rainbow is God’s promise — His covenant sign. In the throne room the Bow flows from His presence and power. The rainbow itself forms an arc — the visible Bow we see arched in the clouds and over the earth. This is a covenant from God for us, a reminder of His mercy, peace, power, and grace. It shows how God protects us while His wrath is poured out on the wicked. God trains our hands for war and makes us strong so we can bend the bow to defeat the enemy in the spiritual realm. The arrow arcs like His rainbow as it soars to strike the target. For those who refuse to repent, He has bent and strung His bow (Psalm 7:12–13; Habakkuk 3:9). Those of us who are in Christ enter into His rest. Those who stand against Jesus never will. Noah’s physical ARK was the actual wooden boat — the vessel God instructed Noah to build. It came to rest on the 17th day of the seventh month, on the mountains of Ararat (Genesis 8:4), after the flood — after the wrath and judgment of God on the wicked and on the earth. Those inside the ARK rode safely on top of the flood waters, which began on the 17th day of the second month (Genesis 7:11). Precisely five (5) months later, the ARK came to rest. Judgment opened the way for new beginnings. The old passed away, and God made everything new. As believers in Jesus Christ, the floods of life do not cease to come. Nevertheless, God draws us out of many waters. Though mighty armies surround us, we shall not fear. Though waters (wars, trials, tribulations) mount, God is with us in the flood, and we will not drown. God brings us to places of rest, even amidst the storms of life. We are safe and secure in His ARK. God’s warrior bow is set as a sign of His covenant promises to the righteous. It arcs over the waters in the sky — the visible ARC. Just as a bow (whether a warrior’s weapon or the rainbow) naturally curves or arcs when drawn or displayed across the heavens, so the rainbow arches gloriously after the storm as a visible reminder of God’s promise. From the first recorded rainbow in Genesis to the one in Revelation, the ARC of the covenant is symbolic of God’s presence and His throne, with the mercy seat where His judgment and grace collide — mercy for the righteous, judgment for the wicked. In Exodus we see that God once again made a way for His people to be protected from His wrath and judgment on the wicked. Flood waters consumed the enemy while He led His people through on dry ground to the promised land — new beginnings, new life. These historical events are living examples from God of covenant relationship, and point forward to the greater deliverance we have in Jesus Christ. As God refined Israel’s calendar at the Exodus (Passover — Exodus 12:2), the seventh month of Genesis became the first month — Nisan — in the redemptive calendar. Thus the 17th day of the seventh month in Genesis correlates with the 17th day of the first month, believed to be the day of Jesus’ resurrection. The resting of Noah’s physical ARK foreshadows Jesus’ rest in the tomb and His victorious resurrection that brought us new life after judgment. The Hebrew word for rest is nuakh, sharing the same root as Noah’s name (meaning rest or comfort). The ARK resting was a sign of the end of wrath and the beginning of renewal for all creation and humanity. Jesus’ resurrection was the sign of renewal for all humanity through the new Blood Covenant. When Jesus said, “It is finished,” He had completed the work of taking all judgment and sin upon Himself on the Tree. Then He rested — Sabbath — in the tomb and rose again to new life. Those of us who are in Christ died with Him and have risen to new life as well. This is a powerful TYPOLOGY; Crucifixion on 14 Nisan (Passover) to resurrection on 17 Nisan. The ARK rested — new world (Genesis). The Israelites crossed the Red Sea — deliverance from death (Exodus). Jesus rises from the dead (the Gospels). Rest after trial is a message of what Jesus did on the Tree. We rest IN Him even now. There is an arc of God’s promises — His covenant, the rainbow — from Genesis (Noahic covenant), to Ezekiel (vision of God’s glory and splendor relating to the beauty of the rainbow from God on His throne), to the Gospels (Jesus’ death and resurrection), to Revelation (God making all things new and wiping away every tear). The rainbow in Ezekiel speaks of the awe-inspiring majesty of God and His indescribable glory. It links the sign on the earth (the rainbow in Genesis) to the reality of heaven. God placed the bow from His throne — from Himself in the highest heavens — onto the earth for us to see. This is the fulfillment of the rainbow in the clouds: the eternal reality around the throne. How sovereign, gracious, and loving is our God! As Ezekiel fell face down and worshiped at the vision of God and His magnificent splender, so would I. How about you? Imagine this! The rainbow around the throne in heaven (Revelation 4:3). John was caught up in the Spirit… God’s eternal reign. All three rainbow examples in the Bible give us consistent reminders of God’s promises, His glory, and how He is supreme as King and Lord. In the days ahead we will see increased warfare — on us individually and as the ecclesia of Christ collectively. These things must come, as God’s Word warns: “For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man…” (Matthew 24:37–39). Nevertheless, God’s promises remain. Just as He brought the Israelites through the Red Sea unscathed while drowning the enemies of Almighty God, He is doing the same for His people now. Jesus completed the work of judgment on the Tree. Those of us who believe in and follow Jesus Christ are sealed in Him and protected (Revelation 7:2–3; 1 Peter 3:20–21). We are not appointed to wrath (1 Thessalonians 5:9). God gives us strength for this moment, for today, and for the battle ahead. Family of Almighty God, keep yourselves hidden in the secret place of God’s presence, abiding under the shadow of His wings (Psalm 91; Colossians 3:3; Romans 8:1). Keep your spiritual armor on. Walk by faith, not by sight. Remember — we fight from victory! Every part of God’s Word weaves an all-powerful, transcendent, resplendent, tapestry of God’s covenant faithfulness to each of us who belong to Jesus Christ! His Word brought the greater covenant, surpassing all others, as Jesus Christ is the ARK! Now, each of us who are in Christ are shielded and anchored in The ARK — and under the ARC. The Blood Covenant promises! In God’s graciousness, He has given us a visible representation of His covenant in the rainbow. Isn’t He such a good, attentive, infinitely loving Father? Family of Almighty God, keep yourselves hidden in the secret place of God’s presence, abiding under the shadow of His wings (Psalm 91; Colossians 3:3; Romans 8:1). Keep your spiritual armor on. Walk by faith, not by sight. Remember — we fight from victory!

Every part of God’s Word weaves an all-powerful, transcendent, resplendent, tapestry of God’s covenant faithfulness to each of us who belong to Jesus Christ! His Word brought the greater covenant, surpassing all others, as Jesus Christ is the ARK! Now, each of us who are in Christ are shielded and anchored in The ARK — and under the ARC. The Blood Covenant promises!

In God’s graciousness, He has given us a visible representation of His covenant in the rainbow. Isn’t He such a good, attentive, infinitely loving Father? He takes such intimate care with us!

Look up. See the glory of the Lord all around!
