Eskom is making steady progress as we move beyond the peak maintenance season, with the Planned Capability Loss Factor (PCLF) having decreased from last week’s average of ~4883MW to this week’s average of ~3300MW. As a result, the Energy Availability Factor (EAF) has been recovering as expected, now fluctuating between 61% and 64% since Monday, driven by the return of additional generation units from planned maintenance.

Several key power stations are currently demonstrating strong performance. Kusile and Majuba are operating above 80%, while Lethabo and Hendrina have both exceeded the 70% EAF mark.

A noteworthy highlight is Hendrina Power Station. At 52 years old, it continues to demonstrate impressive reliability, maintaining an Unplanned Capability Loss Factor (UCLF) of just 8.56%. This achievement is particularly significant, marking the first time since late September 2021 that Hendrina has surpassed a 70% EAF, reaching 72.23%, a clear testament to its continued importance to the grid.

Although the power system is still constrained, these incremental improvements demonstrate Eskom’s focus on delivering energy security and enabling economic growth.
