Did you know that for DWI trials you can be prosecuted based on “intent to drive” for things like whether or not your key is in the ignition or if your sitting in the driver seat.
Last week at my internship I got the opportunity to interview the District Attorney, Miriam Rocah. I asked her about her former positions as a prosecutor and overall job description. It was an amazing opportunity getting to speak to someone with so much influence. @YHSMrsMero
Last week at my mentor meeting with Mr. Altman we discussed my ideas for my final project! I’m so excited to show you guys insight into what I have been doing at my internship! @YHSMrsMero#WISE
This week I read an article about “burnout” pertaining particularly to the field of law. It talked a lot about how the field can be redundant and competitive which is important for me to be aware of. https://t.co/gYQXObBcju @YHSMrsMero#WISE
Last week at my internship I worked on organizing old warrants from up to 20 years ago. It was cool to see what a case file looks like and how they are structured with information regarding each case. @YHSMrsMero
As I begin to think about ideas for my final project and symposium I decided I’ll be focusing on public interest law and the district attorney since this has what I have surrounded myself with during the course of my WISE journey rather than my original idea.
I’m so excited for Wise Wednesday today ! Me and my project partners have made a great presentation about the overlapping fields of law, forensics and criminal justice. @YHSMrsMero#WISE
Yesterday I got to meet up with @SamRamosWISE and @gmastrowise to work on our group project. It was so fun to put our ideas into action surrounding our mock crime story and I’m so excited to present what we came up with! @YHSMrsMero#WISE
This weekend I went to tour University of Scranton for their accepted students day. This school offers a 3 and 3 law program allowing students to get their undergrad and law degree in 6 years instead of 7 which is something I’m interested in narrowing down schools. @YHSMrsMero
I’m so excited for my WISE meeting with Mr Altman today! Last week we discussed possible ways I could present information on my internship for my final presentation since confidentiality is so important in law. @YHSMrsMero#WISE
Did you know, Only 14.4% of all US lawyers are certified members of ABA. The ABA is the American Bar Association, a voluntary association of lawyers and law students, not specific to any jurisdiction in the US. @YHSMrsMero#WISE https://t.co/Skc4Cd3vAy
In the public defense sector, district attorneys are crucial to prosecuting and dealing with various crimes in a specific area. District attorneys decide punishment for a criminal in terms of sentencing and how to prosecute. #WISE@YHSMrsMero
This week I looked into the difference between DUIs and DWIs. The district attorney office deals with a lot of these cases so I found it important to be aware of the difference. A DUI is driving under the influence while a DWI is driving while intoxicated which is more severe.
I’m so excited to start my internship at the DA office this Thursday! This week I’m filling my WISE time researching the structure of a district attorney office and cases they take so I’m prepared when I go in. @YHSMrsMero#WISE
In the field of law, conflicts of interest are very apparent. Did you know lawyers can not represent a new client with conflicting interests to a former client? This is obviously taken on a case by case basic but it’s important for lawyers to be completely unbiased @YHSMrsMero
