Update: This "Super El Niño" will be perhaps the strongest in 500 to 1000 years, and could legitimately be the most extreme global weather or climate event experienced by humanity since the invention of the printing press. Only more extreme situation is a volcanic winter.
I know a lot of people have already posted about it. But it's really just... I don't know. The president is selling 6-figure access to his social media feed so Wall Street algorithms can beat you to the punch and fleece you before news even hits your phone. He's making millions on a system designed to give a massive advantage to major corporate traders who can afford a feed that gives them information first. It's the single most corrupt thing I've ever seen a politician do with their office. Literally.
The most alarming thing about this graph is not just the amount of change, but the smooth consistency of the curve. If this were a startup I'd be really confident about their future growth. Unfortunately it is instead the planet we live on.
Incredible that we wasted the 2000s-2010s low interest free money phase of the US economy completely on making a million versions of Doordash instead of building useful infrastructure
China added over 543 Gigawatts to their grid last year. 434 GW was renewables because they are faster to build. The U.S. added a paltry 53 GW. We are losing the “AI race” to China because these idiots hate green energy. This is suicide by stupid.
I don't say this as a partisan, I say this as an American. It is beyond outrageous that on the eve of celebrating our independence, a federal appeals court is allowing Trump to remove slavery exhibits (in Philadelphia no less!)
