Our Clean Power Action Plan will herald a new era of clean electricity.
A future where our energy system is reliant on homegrown clean power, not fossil fuel markets controlled by dictators.
A system that will provide energy security, good jobs and lower bills.
🤳 Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting 18-year-old nuclear campaigner Will Shackel at Sizewell C as part of his tour of several UK nuclear power stations.
Will, a vocal advocate for nuclear power and founder of @nuclearforaus, has been campaigning globally for nuclear energy, including at events like COP28. During his visit, he interviewed members of our Sizewell C team before heading off to Sizewell B for a plant tour, which included a visit to the Dry Fuel Store.
He was impressed by the stats, especially that Sizewell C will provide clean power for 6 million homes over the next 60 years, contributing to a sustainable and stable energy future.
Thanks @ShackelWill, for joining us - you are an inspiring voice for the future of nuclear energy!

Today we've signed a multilateral research agreement on advanced nuclear reactors with US Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk.
It will see us play a leading role in speeding up the deployment of cutting-edge nuclear tech to help decarbonise industry.

#OTD The Queen of England ushered the U.K. into the Atomic Age by opening the first full-scale nuclear power station at Calder Hall in Cumberland, declaring, "It is with pride that I now open Calder Hall, Britain’s first atomic power station.”

WTF! Sierra club????
This is how people change their minds by the way. Quietly, in the footnotes. Nobody like to actually admit they were wrong for SO LONG!
Great to see that @KairosPower is partnering with @Google! This is a huge boost for the SMR market – and shows that companies are increasingly realising #nuclear is essential to meet our #climate goals!

We are fortunate that @CNL_LNC are supporting us in the development of our Waste to Stable Salt (WATSS) process.
CNL’s expertise will be vital in validating the research we are doing in Canada and in our laboratory in Warrington, UK to create WATSS – which will be used to convert spent #nuclear fuel.
We were delighted to welcome a team of CNL scientists to Warrington recently to observe our own researchers and technicians in action and work alongside them.
Our huge thanks to the team for visiting, and to CNL for their continuing support in making our #technology a reality.

Congratulations to @ELPinchbeck, the new Chief Executive of the Climate Change Committee.
Emma's expertise and leadership will be vital as we drive towards net zero - bringing new, skilled jobs and investment to communities across the UK.
#Safety-case informed design is vital to cost-effectively developing a low-cost, rapid-deployment advanced #nuclear plant – and that needs early regulatory engagement. We’re delighted that after industry discussion with @energygovuk and the regulators across the past year, @The_ONR and @EnvAgency introduced early engagement to open a dialogue with SMR vendors.
We kicked off our early engagement with ONR and EA in September, with a hugely productive discussion on how our FLEX reactor will meet the principles of the UK’s world-renowned regulatory process. FLEX is built on passive safety – air cooled, walk-away safe, with passive reactivity control – and it was a pleasure to start discussing this with the regulators.

An important day for us here – we have completed in-house sintering of our simulated spent nuclear fuel for WATSS tests!
The simulated fuel will be used to prove the first stage of the WATSS process before hotcell tests with actual spent fuel.
WATSS (‘WAste To Stable Salt') is the reprocessing system we are creating for spent #nuclear fuel, which will reduce high-level waste volumes by over 90%. It will extract the useful transuranic elements, which can be used to create new fuel, and leave the depleted uranium behind as an easily stored low-radioactivity material.
These pictures show WATSS team members Jose P. Zuniga, Ricardo Ortega Vaquero, Connor Smith and James Moffat, who are making great strides in perfecting the technology.

Our CEO Rory O'Sullivan visited @argonne recently to see the progress that’s been made in creating a molten salt loop to test and validate our coolant salt!
It’s one of the largest chloride salt loops in the world – we’ll be using it to model how fuel assemblies in our SSR-W reactor will function under different operating conditions, and gather data on heat transfer, corrosion and the salt’s behaviour.
Huge thanks to the ANL team carrying out the amazing research with us.
