Education is not a product or a process. It’s a people business. That’s why one of the biggest mistakes in education is treating schools like factories instead of human systems. Factories are technical systems. When something breaks, you replace the part. When production slows, you redesign the process. Technical systems respond to procedures, standardization, and compliance. But schools are different because people are different. Kids are not products. Teachers are not machines. And schools are not assembly lines. Learning is not linear. Human development is not standardized. Beliefs change outcomes. And relationships can change everything. Yet education keeps trying to solve people problems with technical solutions. More standardized testing. More teacher evaluations. More scripted curriculum. More data walls. More compliance. More programs promising the “fix.” Meanwhile teachers are burned out. Students are disconnected. And leaders wonder why culture still feels broken. Because human systems require human leadership. Relationships. Connection. Trust. Understanding. Belonging. You can improve every system in a school and still lose great teachers. Because education is not a product or a process. It’s a people business.
