Today I learned that @MittRomney somehow had the gall to run for President of the United States of America without even so much as a basic Wikipedia education about the American Revolutionary War.
For those of you who are not Americans, George Washington did, in fact, do a deal to end the American Revolution. The deal was called the Treaty of Paris. It was negotiated by Franklin, Jay, and Adams. It physically still exists in the national archives.
Mitt Romney doesn't know his own country's history.
He also doesn't understand asymmetric warfare, which is a thing that you kinda might want the Commander in Chief of the military might of the United States of America to understand.
Asymmetric wars are always fought for the purpose of getting the larger force to decide the juice isn't worth the squeeze, and to give up and go home. Usually this is punctuated by negotiations.
When you are in a war, that war is not just a military conflict. It is a contest on every level of society, and quite frequently it is punctuated by negotiations which leverage the strength of what you have achieved in other arenas.
The real moral of this story is that the political class isn't smarter than you. And they aren't more knowledgeable, either.
They're just better positioned and less scrupulous.
When they run for office, they do not bring to that office any great talent or unifying vision. They are simply the central node of a network of advisors, policy wonks, lobbyists, and tame think-tank intellectuals.
They will say nothing to that hasn't been scripted, and hear no questions they were not coached for in advance.
George Washington, were he here to unite us today, would have these men tarred, feathered, and thrown in the reflecting pool.
@realsashastone@JaniceDean@megynkelly I’m actually getting really tired of the @megynkelly hate. There are so many things I disagree with her on but she is an outspoken woman on the secular right. There are SO FEW of those. The attacks seem really overdone and honestly annoying.
@DeborahKnox@larissaphillip@DeborahKnox I have been fully black pilled. We need a catch up- I need your positivity to rub off on me! I don’t even think I want to vote anymore
I keep tabs on alpha school bc it is 180 degrees from classical schools, but they are both aiming to solve the same problem.
I’ve watched how much better my children are at recalling information and attribute that to reading real books and writing their own notes.
App learning still puzzles me.
Some personal news:
I've joined the Learning Science team at Alpha. You can probably guess what I'm there to do.
I suspect this news will come as a surprise to many. Frankly, it surprised me!
More in my latest post.
Kenan Thompson says Shane Gillis’ controversial “SNL” monologue “overshadowed” the entire episode:
“I know Shane, and I don’t know him to be a mean person, necessarily,” Thompson said at the Axios Media Trends Live summit. “But if he were to come back [to ‘SNL’], I’m sure we would have a conversation of like, ‘How do you think that went?’ You know what I mean? And, ‘What do you think you could have done?’ Like a little kid, you know? I would just sit him down and be like, ‘So what do you think we could change there, pal?'”
"Grace [Reiter], one of our newest cast members, had a phenomenal show, and it’s sad because nobody’s even talking about it,” Thompson added. “Even [musical guest] Rosalía is getting overshadowed because we want to go back and forth on what’s offensive and what’s not.”

Meta took down the No Kings organizing page today - the biggest day of protest this fall. They provided zero explanation. It stayed down for the entire afternoon until most of the protests were done.
Outrageous. Put this on the January investigation list.
ON UCHICAGO CAMPUS: U.S. Senator from Michigan Elissa Slotkin hopes planned political prosecutions of republican leaders will scare young conservatives from getting involved in politics.
@ElissaSlotkin
@DanMiressiCT@firstladyfc@MittRomney Mitt Romney sold us down a river so many times. They never support us and were always supposed to support them. Hard pass.
And he'll do it all with a smile on his face, telling you that he's preaching the Gospel.
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves." – Matthew 7:15
💯 it’s so funny you mention freedom. The parent lecture at our school this morning is that our society has inverted what freedom is. Freedom, as the ancients and religious define it, is the ability to choose virtue and to use that virtue to further the flourishing of human kind and in service of others (notably your family and community). We’ve warped that to define freedom as doing whatever you want in service of only yourself.
True! But I wonder if that’s a cultural choice vs. actual potential. It struck a chord with me because the headmaster at our school is a 32 year old woman who already has 4 children and is so much wiser than I am because of the expectations/study/reading her family set. But it begs the question of what young people could accomplish if we demanded more from them.
