“The more one reads & studies it (the Bible) the more it fills & satisfies the heart, while at the same time it causes a thirst for more.” Thank you @juliabhiggins for letting God use you to empower & equip so many women to teach the Bible rightly!
In his grief, Job asked God to leave him alone. God denied Job’s request.
God sticks with His people through their suffering, regardless of how they feel about Him in the moment.
When Paul left for Damascus, you would have thought he was as far from embracing Christ as was humanly possible.
In reality, He was never closer.
Some who seem far, are ever so close.
During worship this morning, we sang "What a beautiful name," but instead of,
"You didn’t want heaven without us
So Jesus You brought heaven down"
we sang, "Our sin had cut us off from heaven..." (or similar) & I was so thankful!
It's a lovely song with one bad line!
We usually have patience & compassion for those in our churches who are suffering.
But less so for the stubborn, the belligerent, the angry, and the defiant.
As if they are not those who are suffering.
Keeping Christ at the center of our teaching means more than just pointing his followers to look back to what he has done. It also means exhorting them to walk as he walked. He is both our Savior and our Example. We need both indicatives and imperatives.
“There are only two kinds of people: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, ‘All right, then, have it your way.’” -C.S. Lewis
Sanctification rarely looks like an immediate ceasing of a particular sin. It more often looks like an increase in the distance between repeated sins, and a decrease in the distance between committing them and confessing them. God is so patient with his children.
