@LydiaLarken@Vitus_osst No Catholic with a particle of common sense or understanding of Church teaching holds this view, or ever has. It's absurd, and has never been the Church's view.
@_kryptoniann@Vitus_osst Actually, ppl HAVEN'T been arguing about it, because it's a nonsensical claim that the Church has never made. "Rev" Vitus doesn't know what he's talking about. If you wonder about what the Church teaches, books by Frank Sheed, Bp. Barron, and Msgr. Knox are all reliable sources.
@Vitus_osst@NoInnrMonologue "He is selected by the holy Spirit not man"
That is NOT Catholic doctrine, and never has been. Stop saying what isn't so, and learn a LOT more of Catholic doctrine and theology before taking it upon yourself to make pronouncements about it. Or else beware of a millstone.
@Vitus_osst@phreakmac You know what? You're both talking nonsense. @Vitus_osst, it is nowhere stated that the Pope is holier than others, and there have been some terribly worldly ones. @phreakmac, get a grip: that's an ugly auditorium, not a snake. Both of you need to calm down and learn a lot.
@GeoxpXp@Vitus_osst Of course nobody claims that he is. But howsabout YOU give ME a Scripture reference for the claim that the bible is the only reliable source of truth. The trouble with sola Scriptura is that there isn't a single word about it in Scriptura. Which is awkward, to say the least.
@Vitus_osst Of course not! It's no part of Catholic teaching that the Pope is anything more than a man. Not the holiest, not the wisest, not the most brilliant, just the one chosen to sit in the seat of grave responsibility for guiding the Church, with God's help.
@LindaMHanson@ChristopherHale Yes, that's right. It would have been SO MUCH more just if the little madman had won and been able to complete his T4 and Final Solution, ridding the world of the handicapped and of Jews.
Try not to talk silly rubbish, Linda.
@TheWokeyDope@ChristopherHale You've noticed that, too, I see. Funny, the things that seem to him to call for correction, and the things that don't . . .
@Ace_Javier64@ChristopherHale@Pontifex Iran would be "using lethal, mass-destructive bombs" if their combatants could hit the broad side of a barn with them. But tech accuracy isn't taught in the Koran, apparently. You keep on trusting in Jesus, as I do: His wisdom is WAY better than the ayatollahs' . . . or yours.
@SaifulA77188378@ChristopherHale@DuriansFolk As HAMAS was the first to use lethal force, let HAMAS be the first to disarm. The same goes for those animals who were running Iran. And the Man in the White Beanie only influences Catholics when what he says makes sense, which this drivel does not.
@Irsheyzs2@ChristopherHale@McBrideLawNYC He was trained when seminaries were mostly run by radicals who held that killing Americans was understandable, and a reasonable way to redress the balance between Capitalism and the Third World. Seems like he believed it all, poor credulous soul.
@TheReformRepub1@ChristopherHale "what is the difference between artillery and aerial bombing?"
Aerial bombing destroys the enemies' war materiel without striking civilian centers. Unless, that is, the enemy deliberately hides its military targets behind civilian centers, so it can whine to the world about it.
@Wednesday1776@ChristopherHale@Katiescarlet2 There's nothing wrong with it. Leo's one of these innocents who thinks there would be no wars if the West just refused to defend itself (or anyone else) when attacked. At his age he should know better, but so should lots of other old fools.
@LizzieNolla@ChristopherHale That's your responsibility, cookie, not anyone else's. I don't advise standing before the Throne of God one day and using the excuse, "Oh, but there were so many hypocrites, I couldn't even, I mean, what icky people."
My good man, sit down before you hurt yourself. You math majors tend to think you know everything, because you can do great things with numbers. But it doesn't help in understanding texts and ideas, unless you've taken the trouble to learn those skills, too. It seems you haven't.
