Today I officially launched the inspection and calibration of tea weighing machines at Teganda and Ndarawetta Tea Buying Centres in Bomet Central Constituency, Bomet County, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and transparency in the tea value chain.

I announced the introduction of tea kiosks in all buying centres to promote local tea consumption, strengthen community culture, and create jobs for women and youth in hospitality.

I emphasized tea quality awareness, encouraged farmers to diversify into coffee and avocado to broaden income streams, and highlighted the importance of sustainable farming practices.

Through the support of the @TeaBoardKenya, farmers were equipped with protective clothing, including shoes, to enhance safety and wellbeing as they carry out their daily work.

Today I attended International Tea Day at @MomulTea Factory in Kericho county, led by @CS_MoALD Hon. Mutahi Kagwe under the theme “Fostering Growth and Inclusion.” Key milestones achieved: KTDA has raised farmer payments from KSh 23 to KSh 26 per kilo, government modernization of factories to cut costs and boost returns, Ketepa’s KSh 1 billion upgrade, commissioning of the Orthodox and AWM plant, and the distribution of 100,000 avocados and 100,000 certified tea seedlings.

This celebration reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to inclusive growth, farmer profitability, and global competitiveness. The tea sector sustains livelihoods, creates jobs, and strengthens our economy, with farmers as its backbone. We remain dedicated to policies that empower them, enhance productivity, expand markets, and secure a brighter future. Together with Senate Majority Leader Hon. @Aaroncheruiyot,Kenya high commissioner to Namibia Hon. Florence Bore, @TeaBoardKenya CEO Willy Mutai, @KTDAHoldingsLtd Chairman Enos Njeru, county leaders, MCAs, and other stakeholders, we will continue building a stronger, more prosperous tea industry for generations to come.

This morning together with @CS_MoALD Mutahi Kagwe, we visited the Setet Hydro-Power Project in Chemosit, Kericho County to review the progress of construction. The project, owned by @KTDAHoldingsLtd, is scheduled for completion in December this year and is expected to lower production costs for tea factories including Momul, Chelal, Litein, Tegat, Toror, Kapkatet, and Tebesonik.
