Iraq has launched its first satellite teleport ground station since 2003, linking satellite communications directly with the country's fiber-optic network.

The facility will support security agencies, aviation, broadcasting, satellite internet and remote areas.

Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service is the first customer, subscribing to 10 MHz of satellite capacity.

Officials say the project will allow more sensitive data to be routed and stored inside Iraq instead of through infrastructure abroad.
