@boehmerB Being dependent on one commodity has its perils. Oil prices fell by 70% from their peak of $114 per barrel in June 2014 to a low of $27 per barrel in January 2016. This crash was primarily triggered by the U.S. shale oil boom flooding the market and a shift in OPEC policy.
@mikalskuterud@CdnChamberofCom@acoyne The performance of major stock indexes has been condensed around a limited number of large tech stocks. No fiduciary is going to allow their portfolios to be so concentrated. You might level your criticism at their investments in private equity and private credit though.
For the fiscal year ending in 1954, the Canadian government provided CA $19.6 million (equivalent to CA $225 million in 2025 values) specifically for research and development to maintain and operate the Chalk River facilities that launched the CANDU nuclear reactor.

@billdinYEG The Super El Niรฑo predicted for 2027 will shift the narrative to why didn't we start to abate carbon emissions 50 years ago when climate science predicted the global warming that now afflicts us.
@kpac_15 Only idiots still post this GDP per capita propaganda. The hyper immigration to Canada between 2022 to 2024 (5X greater proportionately than the U.S.), heavily skewed the ratio. Boost the denominator and what happens. It's more a measure of population in this comparison.
@cbcwatcher Alberta wants unlimited and unrestricted development of oil and gas. They never shipped more of the resource than they did last year, but they want more without addressing the threat posed by global warming. It is morally unacceptable.
@billdinYEG@AndrewScheer Conservatives refuse to talk about climate change. To deny global warming would only confirm their stupidity. To acknowledge it would force them to speak on what should be done about it. In the last two elections the CPC banned their candidates from attending public debates.
@colewhogan@JustinTrudeau Using history, especially that of certain other countries, as a justification for your reactionary politics is not a direction you want to go in.
