My super power is Personal Finance. In my 20 year career I earned $50-100k, raised a family, still had $3m left to retire at 45. Inspiring others to achieve FI.
@iamlandshark If I were working, AND lived in a low or no income tax state, I would only contribute to the match. This is because I have plenty of retirement funds, but feeling sparse in the taxable accounts to get me to 59.5. But, I live in a hi tax state, so I would probably max 401k.
@markallanbovair I’m sure an official all clear declaration would help, but I don’t think that’s going to do the trick for a large segment of the population including those that still think cloth masks ever made a difference or who think their kids are going to die. Addiction to fear is real.
@EricJorgenson Buy real estate on credit.
I was in Russia in the early 90’s. I saw the ruble inflate from 1800 to 10000 per dollar in a couple of years. Under USSR it had been pegged at 1:1. People were paying off their mortgage with a week’s pay.
@StephTheBlogger I’m pro vax, but my kids are older. I don’t want to sound insensitive - rather consoling, but I am perplexed that people are worried about young children and Covid. More kids are dying of pneumonia than Covid, and pneumonia never even entered my mind as my kids were growing up.
@MattLaneWrites I have to say, it really is fascinating to hear this. People on the right believe the GOP is horrible at marketing - that dems always control/own the narrative.
So which candidates and policies do dems think are particularly moderate and reasonable?
@MattLaneWrites Wow, is that really what democrats believe?
I see the party bending over backward to eliminate its 2 moderate senators. And the fact that Biden’s policies have been so immoderate and unreasonable is the reason for the red wave of historic proportions coming in November.
@matthewlee7 Political exigency.
Now that you notice it, you’re well on your way to understanding why it might not be such a great idea to look to those politicians for guidance in your life.
@MattLaneWrites@matthewlee7 The question is, did it make any difference? Did VA’s numbers look any different w/o the mandate than any other state with a mandate? Is there any data showing that mandates have worked anywhere? With O in particular, is there any data to suggest that masks make any difference?
@FINANCEAFTER50 I was buying like crazy in the first couple of weeks of Covid. I blew my whole wad before the market had half of its retreat.
You can never time it or allocate it optimally.
@BestInterest_JC I look to the 4% rule as a very good starting point. Beyond that, I do prefer to have a little padding. I also think I may want to expand my lifestyle at some point in the future. Long story short, I’m shooting for 3% in the first few years and see where that gets me.
@IndexandETFs I have to say that the shine of $1m does wear off. I’m sitting on $2.5m invested, which is plenty to support my lifestyle, but I seriously wonder if my desired lifestyle will not increase over the next 50 years.
@mrburritobowl Also, isn’t Neil Young’s whole thing rock and roll, sticking it to the man, and standing up against bad ideas forced on us by the government?
Yeah, keep on rockin in the free world, man.
@mrburritobowl I’ve never listened, but I do have a healthy aversion to censors. But that’s just for me. I’m capable of objective analysis of competing ideas. For everyone else, I’m in favor of regulating what they are allowed to hear and think. We can’t have people running around with ideas.
