Let me help you see the problem. Players gambling on their own teams on the basic level of ethics is making a bet with information that everyone else doesn't have. Then there are other levels where players can shave points and manipulate outcomes. It destroys the games integrity.
I genuinely don’t see the problem.
I’m sorry… I just don’t.
I do see where gambling IS a MAJOR problem - so much so that like…. You’re being naive if you don’t think there are athletes at your school or on your pro teams who are actively gambling. Like, I understand addiction VERY well and I don’t think people realize how much money is being spent or how many people are going down this path… we have a MAJOR mental health crisis looming bc people can gamble from their fucking phones. Families, careers, and life savings are going to be destroyed within a few years and people
are not talking about that enough. 67% of college students are high frequency bettors. 16% engage in the highest risk gambling.
So, I do think it is irresponsible for the NCAA to set this precedent where a student athlete seeks treatment and transfers to a state where sports gambling is NOT legal. It’s the classic criminalization and punishment over concern for mental health and well-being.
The owner of a freakin NBA team quite literally made her fortune off of gambling. Is it ok for an NBA owner to profit off of an upset loss of her own team? If yes, them there should be no problem with a kid gambling and then seeking treatment
I just think it’s really wild to ignore the public health crisis that we are facing, but not preparing for while simultaneously acting like Texas fkn Tech and Brandon Sorsby are the problem.
It’s happening ACROSS college sports.
@ThePatriot420@tccasillas In context that it erodes the trust in the sport itself, yes. In every other context, obviously not. And that isn't the argument that is being made here. But you know that.
@LoewyLawFirm Alright, entire internet. Don't pick on Brendan Sorsby when he has a bad game. Because @LoewyLawFirm said you wouldn't do something so disgusting.
@Beno10_MFC The community note is incorrect. Nothing says that the lines at straight. But the angle totals tell us that they are, in fact, not straight lines. The true fact is that all four angles HAVE to equal 360°. If the four angles didn't equal 360°, then the diagram would be invalid.
@CoyoteRaider@berrybeezer Let's look at this logically. Every college athlete was just told that they can make money by gambling on their own teams and get away with it. The integrity of every game will come into question and nobody will give a shit about college football because it's all fixed.
@CoyoteRaider@CJVogel_OTF "He's a degenerate gambling addict. He can't be held accountable for his actions."
I mean, by that logic, why should he pay up when he loses his bets? He's mentally ill, you can't collect from him if he loses a bet, since he had no control when he made it.
