Dance Hall from the Shore, Bert Poole (1853-1939) , Pencil Drawing on Paper 41/2" x 6 3/8 ". In 1914 Monhegan held a major art exhibition as part of its Tercentenary. Charles Ebert, George Bellows, and Frederick J. Waugh were the jurors and it was held at Bert Poole's studio.

Happy Birthday to Max Rosenthal, photographer, born on this day in 1913 in Germany. In 1935 he emigrated to the US, and in 1950 discovered Monhegan. In 1957 Max and his painter wife Sue purchased "The Inkspot" cottage. This is one of his many gorgeous Monhegan photographs.

"Monhegan Island Maine, Yesterday and Today", A booklet from 1966 by Ade Mersfelder. Mersfelder was a POW veteran of WWII. He owned and operated the Rockcrest Gift Shop, located near the wharf, site of the current Barnacle.
Andrew Winter, born in Estonia in 1892, became an American Citizen in 1921. He married Mary Taylor in 1928 and they moved to Monhegan year-round in 1940. Upon his death in 1958, his ashes were committed to the sea off Monhegan. This painting from 1942 is titled "Hekking House".
